If you’re looking for authenticity with high-end gastronomy but a slightly more relaxed setting, this is a gem. Their creative French dishes are both comforting and elegant.

I reserved a dinner for 11 here for one of my birthday dinners in Bordeaux. The restaurant is located on the other side of the river from the centre of Bordeaux in a quieter area of town. Contrary to an earlier review, I found the food creative and delicious. We all had the 4 plate tasting menu. A highlight was the seaweed bun. So playful and tasty. The langoustine was yummy as well. I also had sweetbreads for the first time and loved it. I would characterize the food as more modern fare rather than classical French. Portions were appropriate. We weren't left hungry but nor were we stuffed. Services were perfectly paced and very attentive. Not overly intrusive. The inside of the restaurant is small, but they prepared a long table for us off to the side of the main dining area where we had a little privacy. We were pretty loud so I hope we didn't disturb the other guests. If you are looking for a special occasion dining experience, I would highly recommend l'Oiseaux Bleu.

Un régale pour les pupilles et les papilles ! Merveilleuse balade culinaire pour clôturer un agréable séjour bordelais. L’ensemble de l’équipe est souriant. Le cadre est intimiste et coquet. Les saveurs sont à la hauteur de la réputation du l’établissement. Nous nous sommes régalées. Un grand merci.

We had high expectations for this dinner, hoping the chef team would showcase their creativity with fresh, local ingredients. The service was good and the staff were friendly, but the food was a letdown.

Most of the dishes were underwhelming—not terrible, but lacking the spark you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. The only standouts were the bread and the smoked tuna. The rest felt forgettable. The pork dish was especially disappointing: it didn’t taste good, the sauce was too salty, and the pork itself was tough and dry—fully cooked but not tender, with no clear flavor or concept behind it. It left us wondering what the restaurant was trying to highlight with this seasonal menu.

In France, many places use local ingredients with excellent results. Unfortunately, L’Oiseau Bleu didn’t deliver that same level of thought or taste. Based on this experience, I wouldn’t recommend it.
