Every year my sister and I book a week's skiing holiday at a 5 star hotel, and one of the things we look forward to is having varied and delicious 4 course evening meals included in half board. The food here was extremely disappointing. The menu is the same EVERY DAY except for the chef's special and the soup, and if you don't like the special (included in half board) then most of the other choices on the menu are charged extra! You even have to pay if you want cheese instead of dessert. I've NEVER experienced this in a "5 star" hotel before. Additionally, the choice at breakfast is extremely limited and stocked low.|The boot room is poorly designed with not enough space to sit down without constantly having to move to let people pass. The exit from the boot room is via the outdoor terrace, where you have to manoeuvre past all the tables and chairs. Not ideal!|Several times the cleaners came to clean the room just as we got back from skiing late in the afternoon, then would come back to do turndown when we were getting ready for dinner.|This is a lovely hotel, but it's not 5 star. On a positive note, it's in an excellent location and we had a lovely, sunny balcony overlooking the piste. The staff are very warm and friendly and try hard to improve the experience - for example, when we complained about the food, the chef made us a special starter. The spa area is also very good with a small, warm pool with jets and a hot, spacious steam room.|I recommend the hotel as a 4 star, not 5 star, but do not choose half board. There are plenty of places with good food nearby to have dinner instead.

We stayed at Le Fitz Roy, and unfortunately, our experience was mixed. Let's start with the positives: the location is excellent, the staff is friendly and welcoming, and the dinners were delicious, although the menu was quite limited.
Now, for the downsides, which were too many for a hotel of this level. Service at reception is extremely slow – we waited 40 minutes for our ski passes. Breakfast was quite basic, far from what you’d expect from a five-star hotel: egg dishes were available for an extra charge, and there was no champagne.
The rooms are very small and in desperate need of renovation – scuffed and stained walls don’t match the hotel's status. Upon check-in, the front door and balcony door wouldn’t close. They were eventually fixed, but the balcony door stopped working again after a few days. The TV didn’t work, and there was no remote control in the room. Information about the hotel, weather, and services was either outdated or completely missing. Surprisingly, the room lacked even basic toiletries – no toothbrush, shaving kit, or shoe care items. Slippers weren’t replaced, even when they were soaking wet.
Housekeeping was poor, although the room was prepared for sleep each night. The bed linens and pillows were excellent, but that was one of the few highlights.
The spa area is extremely small – just two saunas that barely fit 10 people. Hygiene in the spa is lacking: almost no one uses the towels provided, and many guests enter the sauna in wet swimwear, creating unpleasant steam and odors. The gym is a joke – just one treadmill and some resistance bands.
The hotel overall gives off the impression of a bunker – low ceilings, poor lighting, and a lack of space and comfort. Unfortunately, the service and facilities do not live up to the five-star rating.

Le Fitz Roy in Val Thorens is NOT a five-star hotel. (Koh-I-Nor is a proper 5* hotel. Pashmina is a proper 5* hotel.) ||||The only positive experience we had with this hotel is its location. We had to endure a 5-nights stay.||||Their Beca restaurant? After dining there on our first night, I never returned. My husband tried breakfast on our first morning; we bought coffee elsewhere for the rest of our mornings.||||Their bar? On our first evening, we sat at the bar (not at a table) and it took an age to be served unsavoury cocktails without napkins or nuts (which were served to those sat at tables). At peak time, there appeared to be only 1 bartender, 2 servers (who were impossible to make eye contact with) and a floor manager. We never returned after that first night.||||Our €900/night ‘Privilege’ room was poorly laid out. There were no hooks to hang damp ski coats and ski pants outside of the closets. Dirty towels that we purposely left on the floor in a corner were not collected/changed; we had to literally place them in the bathtub for them to change the towels. (This is noted in unobtrusive small cursive writing on a card in the room.) The towels were scratchy. The bathroom amenities were not replenished. Our tray of used mugs, spoons, empty crisp bags, etc. wasn’t collected until we placed it on the hall floor outside our room. The halls and elevators were always dirty.||||The ski room? The worst laid out ski room we’ve experienced. With more than 70 lockers, there are 5 benches in the narrowest space where it’s impossible to change into your ski boots without at least a dozen individuals trying to pass through.||||If you are looking for a 5* star ski-in/ski-out hotel experience in Val Thorens. This isn’t it. I regret not booking Koh-I Nor.

Good location, beautiful rooms, ski lockers are a bit small. The staff is a bit unprofessional. The responses to any negative reviews will tell you enough.
The breakfast is terrific. Some reviews complain that you need to pay extra for eggs - this is not correct. The included buffet has two types of egg options. If you want a custom omelette or other custom egg dishes then you need to pay. The breakfast buffet is fulsome, fresh, and nourishing.
Lunch and dinner at the hotel are also outstanding.
