A very comfortable and welcoming hotel , an easy walk into central Strasbourg.|Good breakfast choices.|Our rooms were upgraded which was a nice bonus. Good sized room, comfortable bed and very clean|Reception staff were very efficient and friendly

This place nearly won a 5—the rooms are large, the beds are comfy, and the staff is exceptional. The staff is ready to help, whether it’s giving directions, or fixing you a dessert. Yes, the breakfast here is great, costs extra, but is well worth it. Dinner and desserts are available, and I loved their apple pie. The drawback lies with the 30 percent of the public (and 40% of children) who have any allergies or environmental issues. In short, the rooms reek of perfume: it’s not lightly scented, but horribly scented whenever the air conditioning kicks in. I frankly felt like I had the worst cold of my life when I was in the room (and my non-allergic husband didn’t like it, either). I had to go outside to breathe. It was 87 degrees and I shut off the air conditioning, which is what the front desk suggested. The problem was that, every time I left the room, the system overrode my “off” setting on the AC and kicked in. They didn’t even have an air purifier. I understand that HVAC salesmen like to upsell properties, but this scenting was worse than in many US major convention centers and upscale resorts. I felt bad for the workers, as this stinky choice wasn’t theirs. Therefore, with only a 15-min walk to the historic center, and a great staff, this would otherwise rate 5 stars. As it is, I could never return, even though it is otherwise so commendable. When will hotels learn that 30% of us, plus those with asthma, COPD and lung issues, really matter?

Location is the main reason we chose this hotel — just a 10-minute walk from the train station.
|They advertise a complimentary bottle of water on their website, but we arrived to find a half-drunk glass bottle in the room. When I mentioned this to the receptionist, I was told that no one drank directly from it and that we could just refill it ourselves. This suggests they don’t properly clean or replace the glass bottles between guests, which is concerning. I’ve stayed in many hotels, and I find it hard to believe this is truly a four-star hotel. |Also, I overheard the couple next to us being given an upgrade or some kind of complimentary service because they were first-time customers — which we are as well. Strange and a bit frustrating to hear, given we received no such gesture.|We still have two nights left here, so I may update this review later — but for now, I give their service 2 stars. You can find a hotel with better service elsewhere.
