A friend of mine from cooking school works here now, and we made the trip to Menton to visit him and to see "his" restaurant.
To be clear, this is a very high-end 3 Michelin star restaurant. The chef owner is from Argentina, and there are 2 other head chefs. (French and Italian, respectively)
The menu changes 2x a week and cycles through 4 genres. I believe they won the best restaurant in the world and it shows.
My wife and I experienced the root menu with the wine pairings from around the world. They sat us on the terrace with a great view of the Mediterranean. Every one of the staff was kind and took the time to answer any and all questions. They all easily shifted between French, Italian, and English.
I can't say enough how creative the chefs are. From a tiny onion tart where each slice of onion is cooked perfectly, cut, and placed as a perfect flower, to a woven sheet of celeriac (celery root), to a duck breast cooked to exacting medium rare served in jus that is so rich in flavor. I can't recommend this enough.
They have a saucier!!? This is a chef who specializes in just making sauces and jus. A 100 years ago, every restaurant worth its salt had one, but today, it's very rare to have a saucier. The fact that this restaurant has one is enough to say it's worth the experience.
If you're visiting Menton or a nearby city, please come and experience for yourself.
