It is a beautiful building and I’m sure lovely in summer but unfortunately in winter it just felt a bit like a drafty old house.
We booked a jnr suite which was barely bigger than a regular room in most hotels, the heating in half the hotel was off and therefore unusable which was a real shame and took away any magic that might have been there. Since there were only 2 rooms occupied when we arrived and half the heating was off there was an issue with the hot water so using the lovely bath in the room also because a chore of going back and forth to reception.
Everything was charged as extra (i have never stayed in a 5* hotel boutique or not that charges for the spa facilities) we ended up just feeling ripped off rather than looked after as you would expect from somewhere charging €500 a night.
I’d come straight from being away for work and wasn’t able to make plans for New Year’s Eve before arriving, when I asked the man that served us the first night for suggestions I was told to try google or Facebook which literally blew my mind - zero local knowledge.
Overall a very disappointing experience.
