Innovative presentations of delicious dishes. Waitress was very friendly and helpful, let us taste several wines before deciding on a glass. Not busy at lunch on weekday when we went, but always jammed for dinner and weekends anytime.

Nice neighborhood location too over rated place. The food is too “sophisticated” but they forgot to make it also tasty. Bottom line; “Not recommended”.

The service and local foods were amazing! Definitely get a reservation as early as you can because the restaurant and neighborhood are fantastic!

Wir hatten einen Tisch im hinteren Bereich des Restaurants, der nicht zu empfehlen ist. Eine Alternative wurde uns auf Nachfrage, trotz Reservierung leider nicht angeboten. Das Essen war gut. Die Weinkarte ist sehr Natural lastig. Alle Weine war gut und haben das Essen gut begleitet.

Vi havde booket bord til kl. 19.30 og ville gerne smage deres menu men den kørte de ikke med i weekenden. Så de tvang os til at booke noget på menuen - man skulle vælge enten 4 forretter eller 2 hovedretter for to personer. Vi bestilte to retter men de var udsolgt! Så vi skulle finde noget andet igen. Vi havde bare en dårlig oplevelse fordi vi følte os fanget. Men maden, som vi bestilte smagte dog godt - derfor 2 stjerner.

Fantastic old restaurant in a great area. Minimal but fascinating menu with regional delicacies from southern France. Historic decor dating back to the start of the 20th century. I had the pigeon followed by chocolate mousse. Both were great, as was the red wine selection. Highly recommended. D x

Een vrouwelijke serveerster onthaalde ons vriendelijk. Het restaurant is mooi en gezellig. Aan tafel werden we bediend door een mannelijke ober. Non-verbaal keek hij erg oordelend toen ik enkel water bestelde.

Mijn vriendin had een lamsgerecht van 42 euro: een klein bord, het vlees was oké, maar de prijs was niet in verhouding. De groenten waren te hard gekookt en het hele gerecht was doordrenkt met azijn.

Mijn andere vriendin had een visgerecht van 38 euro. Zij was tevreden over het eten an sich, maar vond het veel te weinig voor een hoofdgerecht.

Ik had broccolini en beef tartaar. Deze gerechten waren oké, maar ik zou ze niet opnieuw bestellen.

De wijn was lekker en de gin-tonic basic.

We hadden een timeslot van twee uur, maar hebben het restaurant vroeger verlaten en geen dessert besteld.

Conclusie: overpriced, de mannelijke ober kwam uit de hoogte over. Het restaurant had voor ons "een willen maar niet kunnen vibe".

Pourquoi reconfirmer deux fois par mail quand vous avez mon empreinte bancaire et que j'ai réservé un mois à l'avance ?

Mauvais rapport qualité prix.
La nourriture est inégale, juste pas assez bonne et des quantités ridicules pour le prix.
Les saint jacques étaient franchement moyennes accompagnées d'asperges très acides.
La tourte au pigeon et foie gras était très très salée et les moitiés sont petites. 40€ la moitié... Ouch.
Le DEMI gâteau à l'huile d'olive était excellent, juste c'était minuscule.

Un staff plutôt désagréable : le vin a mis longtemps à arriver. On nous a dit sans ménagement que le serveur était parti chercher la bouteille dans une cave ailleurs et que ça allait arriver. On aurait préféré manger notre entrée en buvant.
Et des serveurs plutôt froids et peu vendeurs en général.

Mais le pire pour moi est cette mention incroyablement goujate sur le menu qui demande au client de "jouer le jeu" et de commander "l'équivalent d'un plat". Traduction : dépensez au moins 40€/personne. (Voir photo)

Difficile de passer un bon moment à ce prix là avec cette combinaison d'éléments désagréables.

Amazing spot!
They offer a three course set menu during the lunch time for 32€, which is an absolute gem!
The food is super tasty and well presented.
It's french cuisine with a contemporary finesse to it. The quality of the products, big flavours and the presentation was impressive.
They have amazing natural wine list, also available by the glass too and a few digestifs too.
Friendly and professional service, I was served by a lady (didn't catch her name) super efficient and attentive.
The place overall is gorgeous.
Honestly, one of my favourite spots in Paris from now on.

Perfekte Küche, sattelfeste Köche und charmanter Service.

We were very excited at first. However, we had a table reserved for 9:00 PM, but our reservation was messed up, so we had to wait 15 minutes. Eventually, we were given a table at the bar. The service struggled to organize all the tables at the same time for the next round of guests.

The staff did not ask if we wanted them to take our jackets—we had to ask ourselves.

We ordered some wine, an appetizer, and a main course each. The appetizer arrived quite quickly. However, there was a group of six men dining, and one of them had to send his starter back because it wasn’t warm. Another table at the bar also had to send their appetizer back because the order was mixed up.

And then everything went downhill. A table behind us received their main course, but the woman had to call the waiter because her plate was cold. The staff said they would fix it quickly, but nothing happened for over 35 minutes. Meanwhile, we waited 50 minutes between our appetizer and the main course. The group of six men, who had arrived 15 minutes after us, were already eating their main courses.

At one point, the three staff members went for a cigarette break. Each of them poured themselves a glass of wine or lemonade, leaving one after another while we all waited for our food. There was no apology or communication of any kind.

When we finally received our main courses, the plates were cold—the meat was lukewarm, and the fish was almost cold. I tried some of my girlfriend’s fish, and she tried mine. Later, we noticed that the fish didn’t smell right. We waited for 10 minutes to inform the staff, and when we finally managed to speak to someone, we sent the cold food back to the kitchen.

After another 30 minutes with no food, I was so frustrated that I asked for the check to end the evening. I spoke to the table behind us and asked if they were still waiting for their food. The woman still hadn’t received her main course. Another table next to us was also waiting. Both tables paid after us.

I told the staff that I was extremely disappointed. Leaving the service area for a cigarette break is unprofessional, but not communicating with guests, not apologizing for delays, and not offering even a small gesture like a glass of wine or some bread to make up for the situation is unacceptable.

In the end, we did not have to pay for our food and drinks, but we left the restaurant hungry. Unfortunately, the worst was yet to come.

After three hours in the restaurant, we left, and I was already feeling unwell—so was my girlfriend. We rushed back to our hotel because I felt like I was going to vomit. Once we got there, we were both extremely sick. I had food poisoning, vomiting all night, shaking, feeling cold, and barely getting any sleep. The next day, I couldn’t eat anything and felt terrible.

We had both eaten from the cold fish. While I cannot say with 100% certainty that it was the cause, the symptoms started so quickly after our main course that it seems highly likely.

I work in a Michelin Guide restaurant, so I understand how tough and demanding this job can be, especially with the high turnover of guests at Clown Bar. I also understand that kitchens can have bad days, sometimes due to being understaffed. Mistakes can happen, but the service team must communicate, make an effort to keep guests happy, and manage the situation professionally. That did not happen.

I left feeling extremely disappointed. In the end, we lost a night out in Paris and an entire Sunday of our holiday due to food poisoning. It was a frustrating experience.

I hope you address these issues soon. After reading other reviews, it seems that service is a recurring problem that definitely needs to be improved.

The best restaurant we went to in Paris! The food is amazing, the service from Apolline was sooo friendly, and the overall vibe is cool. Its expensive but it's worth every penny, the flavors are just spectacular. I do recommend booking a table just in case.

Worst service What a disservice to the chefs

Had one of the best meals I’ve ever had last night. Wonderful, colorful dishes with depth and innovation but zero pretension. Also super kind staff and perfect, artful wine pairing.

The coffee is good and the place is really cute/parisian, that’s why I give 2 stars. But the man who serves whom I presume is the owner, is a nightmare. He’s the typical angry-all-the-time, scary, Parisian stereotype. So it can really ruin your mood for a bit if you run into him and do something that he doesn’t like. He has 0 patience even tho he literally works in hospitality and that’s literally the most important part of running a coffee shop.

Wandering around Paris in need of a lunch we walked past Le Clown Bar and threw ourselves down on a seat. With no expectations the menu came at us, intimidating to someone who was after a classic French bite to eat but intriguing, clever and the sign of someone who knew what they were doing.

A charming unpretentious interior awaits you with all the cutlery you need in a drawer at your table. After a small discussion about wine we ordered the recommendation.

The appetisers were incredible sized. You could have them for a starter if there was something you preferred. We opted for the beef tartar and the crab beignet. Both were wonderfully presented and tasted amazing.

I went for the veal sweetbreads, accompanied with a smoked eel purée, bitter leaves and purslane. They were definitely the best sweetbreads I’ve had and will be thinking about them for a while. Light, delicate and wonderfully prepared. A joy to eat from start to finish.

We finished with a dessert wine and a coffee. Too full to go for the selection of desserts they had on offer.
