This Bastide and Hotel oozes charm. The views of the Dordogne River Valley are to die for and the staff was incredible attentive. Our room had a magnificent view of the river from the 3rd floor. The décor was classic French and the bathroom had been fully updated - awesome rain showerhead. There is no elevator but the property more than compensated. BTW - the chef doesn't have a Michelin star but is recognized as a leading French chef and it shows. Highly recommend this Hotel if you aren't married to large vanilla chains.

I think I got a dud room. It was small and outdated. There was a bad odor seemingly from the A/C that never subsided. The bathroom amenities had been updated but the walls looked like a child's art project. Thankfully, this is. It somewhere you stay to hang out in the room. The breakfast and hospitality were wonderful and the view on the river side is hard to beat. If you're considering staying here, don't be dissuaded by my review. Just ask for room 8 -- I got a peek when heading out and it looked beautifully updated complete with a river view.

Excellent 4-night stay at l'Esplanade. We were given a choice of spacious and comfortable rooms and enjoyed the one we picked. Delicious breakfasts, beautifully presented. The staff was welcoming, helpful, and graciously accommodated our needs. Highly recommend!
