Despite the chill in the air, JaJa offers a beautiful setting and warm, friendly staff. I ordered a galette with cheese and pulled pork—something hearty and satisfying for a cold evening sitting outdoors. What arrived, however, was a galette with confit pork and what looked/tasted like light sour cream.
I speak a little French and had just translated the menu for my partner, so when the dish arrived differently than expected, I assumed I’d made a mistake and said nothing. I ate it, but found the taste underwhelming and missed the richness and fullness that cheese would have brought.
Later, when I went inside to pay, I glanced at the menu and realised cheese was meant to be part of the dish! I mentioned this to the host, who was friendly and consulted the waitress and then concluded the chef must have made an error. I explained that the flavours hadn’t worked for me, and she acknowledged this, kindly offering me a dessert or coffee. As my partner had already left for the beach, I declined. She removed my demi-beer from the bill, which I appreciated.
Still, I left disappointed—not just by the mistake, but by how it was handled. Honest errors happen, but there was no real apology or effort to make up for a meal that fell short. For a place with such promise, that felt like a missed opportunity.
