Arriving at 4 pm the, the hotel management/staff had ignored request for a ground floor room close to the dining area as one of us is disabled. We were put in a room most further away. We requested to be moved to the room we had originally asked for and ungraciously we were allocated the room we had requested, also where we had stayed on previous visits. On arriving at the newly allocated room we found it was not ready. The supervisor advised us it will be another 5 minutes and she would let us know. When the room was ready she just walked past and ignored us. We had to ask the cleaner if the room was ready. On entering the room there was a note to say that the heating was not working and two tins of soft drinks were provided gratis as compensation. There was a radiator left in the room to heat the room but not the bathroom. So I had to walk back to the reception in the pouring rain to explain that this was not satisfactory. We were reassigned to the furthest room again, with slippery steps to access it.
On previous occasions we have been offered a glass of Chablis each as a welcome drink. This time we were informed that the Managing Director had decided to cut the welcome drink to one glass per room and that we should write to him to complain. We decided not have dinner at the hotel and reluctantly returned for breakfast. The staff in the morning were very pleasant and charming unlike the afternoon on the previous day.
