Nice place, but please for the love of god and everything holy bring ur own food or like fish cause they'll feed you coconut with soy sauce

I recently had the pleasure of staying at 'Kitu Kiblu', a unique accommodation on Mafia Island in Tanzania. The tree houses with canvas tents are nestled in a lush jungle environment, offering a truly immersive experience.

When you enter this place, you are surrounded by nature. That includes the bush shower and toilet .Waking up to some friendly Sykes' monkeys and spotting the super cute Elephant Shrew is a true getaway feeling.

It sure feels like family eating breakfast and diner together and sharing stories with staff and fellow travelers.

To make your stay complete please join the amazing Whale Shark trip. Founders of 'Kitu Kiblu' have been involved in whale shark research and conservation for a long time.

During a briefing you will learn about these amazing creatures and make your encounter with these gentle giants an experience you will never forget.

Ci siamo trovati benissimo! Lo staff è estremamente preparato, gentile e disponibile. Fin dai primi minuti vengono date moltissime informazioni riguardo gli squali balena e all’ambiente. La colazione offerta è abbondante, così come gli snack una volta sulla barca. Il materiale dato (pinne, scarpette, maschera con boccaglio) è di qualità, consiglio però di portare abiti lunghi perché il sole è fortissimo, anche se non ce ne si accorge ci si brucia facilmente. Siamo stati inizialmente un po’ sfortunati (condizioni meteo non adeguate per avvistare gli squali) ma alla fine siamo riusciti a vederne uno. Maya è molto preparata e ci ha guidato fianco a fianco con il grande squalo, che esperienza! Grazie di cuore a tutti!
Ps: è comunque un’esperienza impegnativa a livello fisico, se si sa nuotare bene come nel nostro caso, garantisco che si può godere appieno dell’esperienza. Per chi non si sentisse sicuro di nuotare in acque libere vengono dati dei giubbotti di salvataggio e le guide sono di supporto, ma se il mare è mosso è bene tenere presente che potrebbe fare un po’ paura.

After doing some research on what company does the most responsible whaleshark trips on Mafia Island me and my partner decided on Kitu Kiblu and we were excited to see put into practice what is being mentioned on their website, swimming and snorkeling with the whale sharks was done in a way that was not harmful or disturbing to the aninals. We had the most amazing encounters, three whale sharks up close, it was magnificent. The team was super lovely and laid back and very caring. Maya told us all about the behaviour and science and her and Ala were amazing at guiding us in the water. We were so happy we decided on Kitu Kiblu, other operators were letting people jump on top of the animals and 2 whale sharks showed scars from motorboat propellors, which was very sad to see (Kitu Kiblu uses a shallow boat and doesn't approach the whale sharks so closely that they could be harmed). Amazing experience, go with the Kitu Kiblu team if you want to have a magic experience that respects and preserves these majestic animals!
