What an absolute gem!! We ended up here unexpectedly after an Airbnb didn't work out, and we are so glad we did! The location is perfect (walk to a few restaurants, and quick 10 minute drive into Jaco), the rooms are well equipped and spacious for our family of six, and there is a great pool and lounging area. The ocean along this area is a bit aggressive for our young children (the waves are massive and powerful!), but we enjoyed the shoreline and made it work! Definitely would return here!

Keep coming back here annually when visiting Jaco. Why? Location, location, location. The rooms are, clean the staff friendly and there are three great restaurants next door less than a 3 minute walk. But it's so quiet and away from the noise of the built up areas and to be literally on the beach! No other location like it!

If you’re looking to check in on time, go somewhere else. They claim checkout is at noon and checkin is at 2pm. When we got there at 1:30, we were told it wasn’t ready. No problem!

But then we came back at 3:15 and it STILL wasn’t ready. We were told “the sheets aren’t ready.” Like they only have one set per room?!!?! And we asked to just put our luggage into the room, and she refused. She made us wait 20 more mins.

The girl at the concierge was increasingly rude the more upset we got. She claimed that the people before us left late. She then offered us late checkout.

Which is probably how the last people checked out late. It’s like a rolling late check out situation, probably.

She said she was incapable of making anything right, because her manager wasn’t around. Then she charged us an additional $30 for a friend to stay with us. Could’ve waived that, but nope.

Then when I asked for additional coffee pods (they sleep three people normally and they only offer two pods per room). They charge $2 a pod. I asked for three and she was like “they’re normally more but I can give them to you because of what happened.”

Like, duh. We were forced to sit out in the heat because our room wasn’t ready for an hour and a half. Thanks for the $6, I guess?

Then you can hear the traffic all night. And our toilet clogged at 10:30pm.

This place was NOT worth the cost…and it cost a LOT for one night.

The beds were nice though.

A nice stop en route from Sierpe to Caribbean coast. Note that the reviews on their website is old, there is no bar or restaurant any more. This turned out fine though as it's only a 5 min walk to e.g. lively Vida Hermosa bar, yet far away enough to be quiet at the hotel. Nice pool area for the amazing sunset, large rooms and secure (gated parking and video surveillance).

beautiful scenery right on the ocean, nice pool and sitting area outside. Little known fact = they used to host the surfing completion's right there in front of the hotel.

The Backyard Hotel was a great stay — very safe (security monitored 24x7, gates operated by security), on the beach (we slept to the sound of the waves!), and all activities picked us up from the hotel (we had multiple choices of activities and start time).

Apart from the location, right on Hermosa Beach and multiple restaurants less than 5 mins walk away + Jaco downtown 10
mins drive away, Chelsea at the front desk and the rest of the hotel staff made our stay truly memorable!!

We gave Chelsea the list of activities that we’d like to do (texted on WhatsApp a day before arrival) and Chelsea took care of everything, incl additional activities that we decided upon once we got there! Chelsea was extremely efficient in planning out and taking care of everything and had the various providers come to the hotel for pickup and drop-off. We didn’t need a rental car at all, and we made the most of every minute of our vacation!

Overall I can’t say enough about the staff and location of Backyard Hotel! If you’re looking for an easy, laid-back vacation by the beach where everything is taken care of by an efficient team who truly care, then this is the place! Highly recommended!!

Beaucoup trop cher pour ce type d hôtel . La suite au rez de chaussé ne devrait même pas être proposée : elle donne directement sur la piscine et les transats. Lorsque l hôtel est plein vous n’aurez aucune intimité et beaucoup de bruits.

Absolutely loved my stay at the Backyard Hotel. The room was beautiful and it's a relatively quiet area so it was a wonderful place to relax. Lots of great restaurants nearby and we were able to access the beach and pool easily. The team helped us arrange a trip to Tortuga Island and were very helpful during our full stay. I would definitely go back!

Cozy little hotel right on playa Hermosa. My parents stayed here the last time they came to visit and they loved it! The room was beautiful and the staff was super nice and helpful.

Almost everything is good but my room door to balcony lock is broken but not fixed yet.. and no breakfast served.. all the sight seeing looks good..

Todo impecable, la limpieza y orden, todo como debería ser en una estancia de éste tipo. El minibar bien surtido. Lástima el Internet que estuvo intermitente y por ratos no habia del todo, pero bueno, que el punto negro no borre la impecable hoja blanca.

Para gente de toda clase y en especial para aquellos que le gustan las olas para surfear,buen bar y restaurante parqueo seguridad

Impeccably clean and awesome staff. Small hotel with beautiful rooms. Beach is a few steps away. The pool was clean and a good size.
It was nice to be a few Km from Jaco. Off the main path and restaurants and cafes were right down the same side of the street. Very safe and secure hotel. Would come back!!!’

What an amazing hotel!!!! You know how you see a hotel that looks amazing in the pictures and you think "there's no way it can be this nice in real life." The Backyard Hotel is EXACTLY that nice in real life! It was so perfect. The pool was wonderful, the room was wonderful, there's a private little area with lounge chairs and picnic benches where you can enjoy the ocean view and choose either sun or shade, and then you are literally steps away from the most beautiful beach. And the location! You feel like you're in the middle of nowhere (which is the perfect vacation, in my opinion), but you're a ten-minute drive from Jaco, there's a store just a five-minute walk away and there are three restaurants just a few doors down that are open all day. The hotel receptionist recommended Vida Hermosa and it was so great we went there for three meals! We will definitely stay at The Backyard Hotel next time we're in Costa Rica.

We stayed here at the beginning of our trip and again at the end because we loved it so much. It is not "posh" but right in line with our likes (and we travel a lot). We loved the location. The beds were seriously the most comfortable we have ever had in a hotel. The entire staff was ready to take care of us and very attentive. We walked to Vida Hermosa for all our meals (seriously). Do not hesitate to stay here!

Great place to stay. Quite, clean and large rooms. The staff is very friendly. They helped us book several tours, activities and transportation. Highly recommend ????

Perfect beach hotel with great food and cocktails. Owner is fantastic. Literally jumped in the water and saved someone’s life from drowning while we were there.
Super cool place!
