Great place to experience the magic of Matera. Very nice breakfast in a large and atmospheric cave room. The cave rooms are cosy in early spring and definitely an experience. We opted in for the guided tour of Sassi which ended up being a highlight of our trip (many thanks to Alessio L).

This has been my most memorable hotel stay ever! I’ve stayed in a cave hotel on Santorini, Greece and this was by far much nicer and more authentic. It had all the modern conveniences but hidden away within the rustic, stone environment. The breakfast was also the best I’ve ever experienced. Everything was magical and beyond perfect! Loved every moment of my time there and wish it’d last longer! Highest recommendations!

This is a truly magical place that provides a very authentic experience of spending a night (or a few) in Matera.

We stayed over for one night during the off season (in February) in the room with a bathtub and it was very relaxing to use it after a full day of traveling and exploring the town. The ventilation was very good in our room (room 14) which is a very important feature when it comes to sleeping in the caves as we’ve been told.

A note to future travelers - we saw two rooms at the hotel during our stay and both didn’t have a door to separate the toilet so do double check that in advance with the hotel if it’s a concern ;)

The breakfast was exceptional filled with locally made products which were very fresh. The coffee was great too.

The service was great, the staff were polite and very attentive.

All in all, I’d highly recommend this hotel as we had an amazing experience. Thank you team Sextantio!

Best cave authentic room we have ever stayed in. This is the real deal people. First, i noticed pple in the review before i book complaining about moist and dark! Duuuuuh its a cave!!! Second, we stayed here in February it was soo cold but inside the cave was amazing and warm. The service is absolutely wonderful, Emilia and Piere were kind of to welcome us and help us with luggage during checkin and out. Its an amazing feeling being there. Yes, it provides only breakfast which is over the top experience but you can order deliveroo all the way to your cave from any restaurant in this old village or burger king from the modern matera side. In the morning 6 am, you step out on the curb and hear the birds and river flow beneath you. If lord of the rings and game of thrones had a baby this place would be it!

The rooms/caves are exceptional and the breakfast room, which is set in a converted church, is spectacular. The facilities are great and the look of the hotel is unique. The rooms are an interesting combination of ancient and modern. The caves themselves and furnishings are mostly old and rustic, yet the bath, underfloor heating and good wifi are right up to date.
