Free audio guide available in English. Written English translations on all the main stories about politics and history, although not on displays of ephemera such as household items from the 1950s, for example, where it didn’t matter as much. Interesting display in the basement on Australian soldiers in France, with translations on printed cards available on a nearby stand.

Small but very interesting telling of the history of this city/Country. The French, The native Kanaks and their place in History. Well presented in a glorious building that is worth a visit even if the museum was not housed there.

Charming little museum exploring the history of New Caledonia (not sure why it's called Musée de la Ville when it doesn't really focus on the history of Nouméa very much). There are some very innovative displays and of course the airconditioning is a relief from Nouméa’s humidity, even if it's not especially cool!

Musée intéressant avec un personnel très agréables. Entre les affiches, les textes, les vidéos, les objets et les petits jeux, on apprend beaucoup de choses.

Great museum with friendly staff. Limited crowds meant time could be spent looking at exhibitions for as long as you like which was nice.

Interesting to learn about the political history of the country. The WW1 exhibition was definitely a highlight. Also be sure to check out the beautiful garden out back.

Spent an easy hour wandering around, the staff provided us with an audio handset which was easy to use and helpful. Some exhibits are in English as well.
Worth a visit if time permits.

Historic Building converted to a Museum, lots of great information, History and displays of old Household items and Photos. Very informative and Lovely and Cool on a Hot Humid day.

Хороший музей, особливо для тих місцевих жителів чиї молоді роки випали на 60-70- ті, є на що подивитися і згадати. Цікаво також побачити, як виглядали старовинні вілли. Жаль , що ми не володіємо французькою чи англійською, тому й інформації отримали мінімум.

Really enjoyed our visit here. While many exhibits have no English translation, there are guide documents around the place and it's still interested to see the artefacts and enjoy the building.

En 58 ans, c'est la 2ème fois que je rentre dans ce musée qui a bien évidemment changé depuis la 1ère fois que je l'avais visité. Il est vraiment très instructif sur l'histoire de la ville de Nouméa et bien évidemment sur la Nouvelle-Calédonie. Ce musée est beau et il faut vraiment prendre le temps pour s'imprégner de tout, 3 thèmes y sont traités. Je vous le recommande à 100% et c'est bien dommage de passer à côté du moins pour nous qui sommes nés ici en NC.

Mostly displays about early history and establishing of Noumea and also World war history in French language, with some English to complement. Cheap entry fee, worth a visit.

Loved this Museum. It had such variety and the English commentary via a personal auditory machine was a nice addition. Really gave me a greater understanding of New Caledonia.

Possede des pièces interessantes, ais la muséographie comme le ménage sont à revoir. Ses salles sombres, mal éclairés ne permettent pas d'apprécier ce musée.

J'ai été très déçu par le musée de la Nouvelle Calédonie qui est en fait un musée des cultures kanaks et Océaniennes. Au contraire le musée de la Ville raconte à la fois l'histoire de cette terre et de sa population avant l'arrivée des Européens et la colonisation Européenne sans compromission mais sans flagellation non plus (je suis fatigué des flagellations). Une partie est consacrée à l'exploitation du nickel et comment peut-on parler de ce pays sans évoquer la SLN....Très intéressante, la part consacré aux Américains qui durant la 2ème WW ont fait de la Nouvelle Calédonie, la 1ère base US du Pacifique. Ils ont construit routes, aérodromes, hôpitaux, vacciné, asséché des marais, combattu les moustiques, employé et enrichi tout le monde, caldoches et kanaks avant d'être mis dehors par De Gaulle (pas vraiment une réussite), une oeuvre stupéfiante et méconnue, accomplie en seulement quelques années. On en parle nulle part ailleurs. Ce musée est à voir absolument.
