It is a beautiful Cathedral, but I'm wondering why St Josephs statue is front and centre in the Church? There is no crucifix that I could see!

The Cathédrale Saint-Joseph à Nouméa is a remarkable display of Neo-Gothic architecture that captures the imagination of anyone who visits. The structure's facade is a blend of timeless elegance and intricate craftsmanship, with its soaring towers and detailed stonework standing as a testament to historical artistry. Inside, the cathedral boasts a serene atmosphere, enhanced by stunning stained-glass windows that filter sunlight into a kaleidoscope of colors across the interior. The vaulted ceilings and Gothic arches add to the majestic feel, creating a sense of awe and reverence.

During my visit in July 2023, I was particularly impressed by how well-preserved the cathedral is, reflecting both its cultural significance and the care it receives.

This town is seriously something else! I mean, Sunday is Sunday here. Everything is closed! I think the cruise ship was trying to play a trick on me by bringing us here on a day when even the ghosts are taking a nap. I was planning to visit this awesome cathedral, but nope, it was shut tight. I guess you could say I had a front-row seat to a very quiet town. Lesson learned: check the days of the week before visiting a place like Noumea, New Caledonia. 'Closed' really means 'closed' here!
