Looks can be deceiving! The resort looks fabulous. The views are amazing. Cleanliness was very good. Staff provided wonderful service. Interior decor was great…………. Restaurants, bars and food offered is where this resort fell down. Three restaurants, two bars plus a swim up bar are found in the advertising. Only one restaurant and bar were open at the time of our holiday. The restaurant was classed as Al la carte but food offered was ordinary and way over priced. We tried to go in our first night but restaurant was not available. We were offered a tapas and pizza menu, which we could order from and take up to our room. We had two serves of fish and chips and two drinks from the bar. Approximately $95aud! Separate occasion we bought a 1.5lte botte of Pepsi to take back to room. Approximately $12.95aud!|There is not room service. You have to go down and order the food yourself and wait for it before taking it back to your room.|There was a note shoved under our door one night informing us the restaurant would not be available the next day due to a private function. That just topped off the disappointing food service.|The resort needs a small shop for guests to get snacks, foods and travel needs.|The cost of using the indoor pool and spa area is disappointing as an additional expense. Along with the board short and pool cap requirements. |The swim up bar has been closed two years!
First time visit from Australia. Had a great stay at the Chateau Royal. Very comfortable room and facilities. Would have been great to enjoy the spa but you must have budgee smugglers (boardies not allowed). Ludovic was very helpful, spoke great English and gave us some great recommendations for restaurants. Thanks!
I’m so disappointed with the level of service with some peoples here I’m leaving this review while still staying in the hotel. First time I’ve ever done this.||I’ll give the pros first|Clean and fresh.|Average decor but all well maintained. |Big indoor pool but wasn’t allowed in it.|Big rooms and comfortable bed and decent sized robes.|Lovely shower and very clean. |Kitchen and lounge area in room with 2 tvs.|Reasonable gym.|Wine shop in the lobby.||Cons …||I don’t think the quality of food I was presented with at dinner matches any of the photos on the rolling screens around the property. It’s almost like it’s completely different restaurant that’s not to say the food isn’t good I’d say slightly over average.|It’s the first 5 star hotel I’ve stayed in that has no buffet breakfast and I felt food was generally expensive but this is life on an island Im sure. |Some staff don’t seem overly helpful but the majority where a pleasure to deal with and very nice. |I’ve never been in a hotel in any other country that doesn’t let you wear swim shorts in the pool yet it even states you can wear swim shorts on the notice in the spa. I think this was exceptionally poor considering it was raining so I was not able to go into the out door pool or the indoor pool. One of the main reasons you go to a resort, I’d say so I feel ripped off. |Pool man had an argument with me about the shorts issue and the reception just shrug their shoulders and said we can’t help.|I asked for a clothes brush or some sticky tape to take fluff off a t shirt and they had neither in the entire hotel complex or the receptionist just too lazy. |Some of the items I ordered on the menu were not available so i felt there was a lack of choice. |The wifi is very slow and at times I couldn’t even load emails.|There is a blue light outside my balcony that shines in the bedroom at night but you can’t close the curtains. ||It’s a real shame these silly items even come up but I felt they were uncalled for in this type of hotel considering what I am paying.|From my research this seemed one of the better places to stay so on that basis I think that’s the last time I visit Noumea.
Merci beaucoup. |Je recommande ce restaurant sans hésiter.
Beautiful hotel in a peaceful location. We had a spacious room with the ability to make basic food in the kitchen, everything was immaculately clean. We have been here for the week and the
standout has been the staff. Everyone from Reception, housekeeping and the restaurant have been amazing. But especially the bar staff who looked after us when the government announced a snap lockdown on take away alcohol sales during our stay. This a beautiful place to spend your holidays. Highly recommended
This was definitely my favourite hotel on my trip to Nouvelle Caledonie! Chateau Royal Hotel had lots of good amenities such as a spa, a pool and a shortcut to the beach. I captured a lot of pretty sunset photos there and there's a lot to do in Noumea since it's the capital city. I occasionally went to the beach after swimming in their amazing pool. Their hotel rooms are so spacious! With a lot of clothes hangers, seating areas and a big kitchen. It was like a mini apartment! The hotel staff were also really nice. I had to get up early to catch my flight back to Australia and I returned my room key with no problems. The only downside to this hotel is that it's a little expensive but I think it's fully worth the price. Would recommend!
A mostly average hotel that attempts to sell itself as a "resort". On first appearance, lobby is nice and modern, however really hot and humid as doors are wide open. Staff at the desk were friendly, however some employees are rude. As a matter of fact, the man working the desk on 28 April at 6:30 PM did not know what time the pool closed when we called down and asked. I feel like that's something you should know if you work at the hotel. He was also quite rude about it.
The rooms are modern and nice looking, but furniture is cheap and the bed is uncomfortably hard. A used towel was right outside my balcony as evident in the photos, so not sure what cleanup was done beforehand. My room was plagued with moths despite the balcony doors being closed. Out of my 2 night stay, I had 8 moths total. My guess is that they were coming from the ventilation. My friend had ants in her room. Cockroach was in the middle of the hallway. After that, decided not to eat at the on site restaurant. Plus the prices for food and drinks are absurd.
The rooms do have a kitchen which is useful as well as means to make coffee or tea.
The beach is a nice time to either relax or swim. The outdoor pool was much colder than expected and it wasn't particularly big or deep. The indoor spa I will say is the hotel's highlight. It's beautiful and has many amenities to include a hot and wet sauna, though the spa is also not that warm.
Breakfast is not a buffet despite what some other reviews say. It's a la carte and absolutely not worth it. The hotel is in walking distance to some stores and restaurants which was convenient.
Overall, this hotel is aging but makes every attempt to appear modern. Certainly not worth what they are charging so much in tourist off-season. It's only true redeeming quality is the spa. I would not recommend anyone to stay here and I wouldn't again.
The room is very clean and has a generous size. Great to have a fully equipped kitchen as well. Location is convenient, just a short walk to restaurants and beach. Particularly like the quick access to the beach.
Outstanding service from the team at Chateau Royal, everything we asked for was taken care of with a friendly smile and nothing was too much trouble. There's an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, and then a gated beach all within a few meters of each other. The shops are only a few minutes walk down the road. As a location I'd definitely come back for another stay.
We stayed here a while back and our stay was terrible (family with one baby and a 2 year old). Got told this was a
family resort by our travel agent. Staff and other resort guests were unfriendly. We got told off for splashing in the pool with our kids. Rooms were nice and location good but by no means is this a family friendly resprt.
It was a nice hotel and I cannot speak any higher of the staff, especially the concierge.
PROs
Nice pool
Has a pool towel service
Everything was clean, well presented (including the rooms)
The rooms are well furnished, have black out curtains and the air conditioning is of good quality. The kitchenette was good however a toaster would have been nice.
Has a beach leading on to the hotel which was nice to swim in and a small swimming board walk nearby (50m long est)
The food was quite nice at the restaurants including the breakfast (44aud per person)
They have a partnership with a local airport shuttle service.
CONs
They don’t have aircon in the lobby or they don’t turn it on
They are doing construction work starting at 7am each weekday (see video attached to this view for sound you can expect).
Everything is expensive. Coffee, juice and basic soft drink is 10+ AUD. Forget buying alcohol from the bar or restaurant, costs are around $20 AUD for imported beer and spirits. A basic Royale burger (cheese burger) will cost you $42+ AUD.
The bed was very hard and uncomfortable. I think the hotel needs to spend some money on new beds and mattresses. This did interrupt my sleep a fair bit.
I wish the room had smart tv or some ability to play some English tv stations. Even for the French speakers staying here, I did note the tv station reception was quite poor too.
There are tennis courts across the road, this was a little loud some nights and they did play music. Could be heard when doors shut.
Other comments
Pool bar was always closed. Not a big deal for me, but they shouldn’t advertise it as open if it’s not
For a hotel of this standard I would have expected new bottles of water each day, that’s ok we just bought our own
It is a little walk from local grocery shops and Anse Vata but that’s ok, it’s not that far. The hotel has its own bus stop which is great.
If only the beds were better I would give this place 5 stars!

Chateau Royal Beach Resort & Spa
Only got to stay one night here, wished we had stayed longer. Beautiful resort with excellent facilities, good service and lovely rooms. View was ok, with bit of the ocean. The 1 bedroom apartment was good for us as it allowed us to have our 3 yr old daughter sleep on a fold out sofa bed in the adjacent lounge. The resort restaurant has absolutely gorgeous food, but is very expensive. The location is ok, but further away from some other good areas (i.e Lemon Bay). It's a beautiful resort and we would definitely recommend!
