This post is explicitly only regarding the „shuttle service“ that Fatima’s offers between their hostels in Maputo and Tofo. We did not stay at the hostels itself, so we can’t say anything about the accommodation.

The distance from tofo to Maputo is 500km and normally should take around 7,5h. Obviously this is Africa and everything can take little longer. But what we experienced was really not what Fatima’s promised us. We had read a couple of reports from previous travelers stating that this is a public bus and not a private shuttle. So we explicitly asked the Boss at Fatima’s in Tofo if this were the case. He promised us that it is a private shuttle, extra for Fatima’s hostel guests and of course it is not a public bus —> plot twist: it was a public bus ;) so we took in total 12,5 hours, stopping every 100m to get more people on the bus (30+ people in a bus with only 21 seats etc).
Everything ok, if we had not been charged SO much more than all the other guests on the bus! Overpriced! Don’t book at Fatima’s, just jump on the bus at any other place and pay the normal price. Would never do this again!!!!

To be avoided : horrible bedding, bed sheets with holes, stains and already used (we found 2 different types of hair in our sheets). The bathroom was dirty of several weeks. In short, deplorable hygiene. Bonus, my boyfriend got bitten by a tropical spider during the night and developed an infection. If only the prices were affordable, but it's not the case…

PS: do not take the bus to Tofo via this hostel. It's a scam: more expensive than the Etrego company, 5 hours more and zero comfort

All was great except being distance divided from our female group family members as the rooms were far (+- 3 meters distance). Oh another advise to travelers, is to expect a different power plug input of any electrical appliance in Maputo.
