Café Gondrée Café à Eviter
Café le plus cher du Calvados! 4€50. Sans petit gâteau. Même pas un sourire d’offert.
Pour la petite histoire, il faut savoir que la Mme Gondrée de l'époque du D-Day a toujours refusé de servir les allemands jusqu'à la fin de ses jours. Un bel attrape-touriste.
Je ne comprends pas que le petit futé recommande. Au contraire, il faudrait signaler l'établissement et recommander d'aller en face.

No idea if Madame Gondree reads these reviews but I'd just like to say thank you for welcoming visitors and making sure that that the sacrifices and successes of D-Day continue to be remembered.

Pegasus Bridge is a must stop on any D-Day tour that anyone might be planning. Steeped in history. It’s a privilege to be inside and see all the photographs of past war hero’s. Also got to meet Madame Arlette Gondrée. Very polite lady which was a pleasure to have spoken with her. ????

The old girls in there must be ready for retirement is all I can say.
Asked for a beer and grumbled because I only had a 10 euro note not the right money. Also asked for water on a hot day and was refused.

Wow, het is gewoon knap om zo’n historische locatie om zeep te helpen. Wat een onvriendelijke / chagrijnige/ onbeschofte dames zeg, gewoon te bizar voor woorden. Binnen zoveel mooi historisch materiaal, maar het enige wat de oude dame doet, is snauwen vanuit de keuken dat je geen foto’s mag maken.?! De meeste mensen zullen waarschijnlijk 1x in hun leven hiernaartoe komen en dan krijg je zo’n beleving. Het terras is armzalig met plastic stoeltjes, geen bediening op het terras, totaal geen geld of energie ingestoken om mensen een leuke beleving te geven op zo een historische locatie....
Met alle respect naar de eigenaresse met alles wat ze heeft meegemaakt maar 1x tip… als u er klaar mee bent stop er dan lekker mee en geef het over aan mensen die wel hun ziel en zieligheid in stoppen. U bent vergeten “waarom en waarvoor” de mensen naar uw locatie toekomen.

Visited on 8th June when not so busy, a calm atmosphere, enjoyable baguette and coffee served by Madame Gondree's grand
daughters, a must visit for anyone. One of my party has an uncanny resemblance to Churchill and dressed up for the occasion.

Lovely cafe and the inside is most informative for visitors. Real shame no hot food on the day we visited but in comparison to the establishment across the road it did not feel like a an overpriced tourist trap with extremely bad coffee

Très mauvais accueil aucun sourire tu as vraiment l'impression d'embêter et très cher et le café vraiment pas bon bref allez à celui d'en face où on mange très bien ils sont sympas et les prix tout à fait correct !

Great cafe and great to be served by the current Madame Gondree. When I commented on the photo of Richard Todd on the wall, she told me what a wonderful man he had been to meet and of his comrades buried in the local church cemetary.

Don't listen to the grotty comments.. Mdm Gondree grew up there, its her cafe, and at nearly 90 she can do what she likes... it is a place of powerfull pilgrimage, a shrine to the young men who died.. that being said, she served me today with nothing but the utmost manners, polite to a 'T' . as well as serving us our food and drink, she went the extra mile and personally gift wrapped the few things we bought at the little counter and she put in a few postcards on the house.. she has a great presence, piercing eyes and is sharp as a pin... respect the place keep to the rules and she'll do anything for you... idiots who break them get short shrift...

Bel emplacement mais c'est tout!
Zéro accueil, il faut aller commander à l'intérieur, porter son plateau (pas propre) et le ramener. Pas de cendrier dispo, on est dedans.... Café pas très bon, cuillère non lavée des clients précédents, pas de sucre ni de gâteau, avec le Perier, tout ça pour 9,5 euros. À côté de la route donc un peu bruyant mais le pont à 10 mètres.... Ça pourrait être sympa et en plus elles sont 3 à l'intérieur... Sûrement une bonne émission à regarder ????....

Glad to see it wasn't just me taken aback by the pure nastiness off the infamous woman who runs it. Heard lots of wonderful stories regarding her as my parents have been numerous times but she was awful. I missed the handwritten sign outside not allowing for pictures inside (due to people stood in front of it). But that is the only notice you are given as there is no such signage inside so it was an honest mistake and how was I supposed to know? She then started screaming at me so much and was so startling she made me almost drop my phone! Already unintentionally pissing her off, I then used a menu to shade myself from the unintentionally hot sun - after being physically sick from heatstroke the day before and still not feeling 100% - she then came and snatched it out of my hands and told me to "use my hankercheif".
Absolutely no need. Awful. Family decided against getting souvenirs due to her behaviour and can guarantee we won't be returning.

Café Gondree met all expectations. A small vintage cafe steeped in history. Meet all of my expectations. Only had time gor a coffee but the stagf were friendly and good.

Atrocious customer service skills by the woman inside. She could have just ask me not to take photos instead of sharply screaming at me. Rude and aggressive. Went to the cafe over the road, which was lovely with great service!

Endroit certainement chargé d'émotions et de souvenirs mais JAMAIS j'y mettrai les pieds une autre fois, la gérante (pas loin de 90 ans) est tellement déstabilisante, méprisante !!! Accueil glaçant, une personne blessée dehors, étant médecin je l'aidais en attendant les secours, la gérante ne voulait même pas donner des serviettes en papier pour aider !!!!
Pour quelqu'un qui a vécu la guerre, pour un humain tout court c'est pitoyable !
A fuir car il ne me reste que son visage glacial à me hanter quelques jours encore ????????

I wish I had read the reviews about this place before went there. The woman was rude and unhelpful refusing us to take any pictures because 'it is a private house'. Everything in there has been given to them by British Soldiers so her refusal to allow us to take a picture just felt mean. It was the only low point in an otherwise very interesting trip around Gold Beach.
