Totalmente recomendable.
Como dije, especial agradecimiento a Marina. Una fenómena.
However, the guides provided only minimum information about the different points of interest, although there was plenty of time to tell us more and offer in-depth insights about the history and geology of the island - not to mention the fauna and flora (not a word about the bats that roost in some of the caves). They didn’t try to create any kind of group dynamic or fun atmosphere, and mainly talked to each other like a couple on a honeymoon (it definitely looked like there was some kind of romance going on here).
Besides, the description said snorkeling gear would be provided but we were only handed goggles, no snorkels… And we never saw the promised snacks. What happened to those?
Finally, I wish the guides (who turned up nearly 15 minutes late) would have taught us a few more technical skills, if only for the sake of safety, e.g. what to do if the kayak overturns when at sea.
On the plus side, the guides readily took photos and sent a download link via WhatsApp shortly after the tour, which was really nice (you need to download the pix one by one if you don’t have a GoPro account, though).
The total duration of the activity (meeting and ending at the red van) was 2h45, which is way under the announced 3h30.
We barely had 20 minutes in Cales Coves and weren’t told there was a trail up to the caves in the cliffs if we wanted to take a closer look (when I discovered that, I didn’t have time to go back and fetch my camera in the kayak, and could only snatch a quick look).
All in all, the route was really enjoyable (and beautiful), the service no so much. The tour would have been fantastic, had the guides shown a bit more interest for the participants and been more knowledgeable.
PS: there are no pick-up options, or recommendations in this respect. If you don’t have a car, you will have a hard time getting there unless you stay in Maò, and the return journey might be even worse since the bus back to Alaior only runs on Mondays and Thursdays. As for taxis, those must be booked well ahead, which can be tricky since the tour may be cancelled or postponed any time due to weather conditions.
