We took a short day trip to the Nuns Valley and absolutely loved our experience. The pick up was right nearby our stay, and the driver/ guide was so friendly and informative. The drive was wonderful and so was the spacious van that we were in.
Missed out on the Madeira West Tour but I would definitely come back for that.
All in all, a wonderful and memorable experience

The tour company situation in Madeira is pretty full on, who do you pick if you don’t want to get ripped off? ( on other hols elsewhere we’ve had fingers burned so we’re wary) - our hotel reception recommended Madeira Sunrise - we did 2 trips with them : 1/2 day Nuns Valley & Full Day Pico do Arieiro to Pico Ruivo (Red Peak)- Madeira highest peak. Both trips were brilliant, Pico day (it’s fairly tough so don’t wear flip flops) was possibly top 3 best daytrips out I’ve ever had - guides/drivers on both trips were great, trips ran like clockwork, so enjoyable. If you go to Nuns Valley, try the chestnut buns in the cafe, - we’re keeping the dream alive as we bought some chestnut jam and honey and it’s getting used as cake toppings at home. We’ve booked to return to Funchal next year and will definitely 100% be going on 1 or 2 trips again with Sunrise. Looking forward to it already!!

Yesterday we did the Fanal Forest walk. What an excellent day. Sergio, our guide was entertaining and informative (in German and English to cater for the group of 11). He introduced us to the beautiful mature Fanal forest trees - when looking at these trees, some well over 1000 years old, remember that thry were here before humans! An opportunity to see some of what are the best examples on the island of a vegetation type which makes Madeira unique. We highly recommend this tour.
