I've stayed 5 times, and the formerly great experience has been gradually whittled down to just a room with 4-10 fairly private capsule-like beds. Gone are the group activities and most importantly, gone are the free breakfasts. Gone is the fun and excitement.
At this point in time, there are nicer places for less money in better locations, so search them out instead.

Not a good value for the money. No breakfast or free towel. No traveler culture most inhabitants were not visitors. Not the cleanest hostel either.

Meh, the Website pictures aren't up to date.
No good breakfast if you don't have your own stuff.
The rooms are basic and alright.
Still wouldn't recommend it.

Me aloje 7 noches y el pase excelente. Las habitaciones están en buenas condiciones y el servicio de limpieza es bueno. Cuentan servicio de lavado y secado por $3USD. La ubicación del lugar es perfecta, está muy cerca de UNION SQUARE y las conexiones al aeropuerto son geniales. Solo hay que tomar un tren hasta la estación POWELL, de ahí solo es caminar un par de cuadras hasta el Hostel. Con un costo de $11USD.

Vanwege omstandigheden konden wij geen gebruik maken van het hostel. Ondanks dat de annulering termijn voorbij was, hebben zij geen kosten doorgerekend.

I kept extending my stay when I went to San Francisco. I would return here.

It's an older building with no elevator, the beds are small but at least have a privacy curtain which is a plus. Front desk ladies are great. There is one grumpy dude who was cleaning the kitchen and slammed the door when I asked to go in because I had groceries to drop off.

I travel to here from time to time between my camping and suping trips up and down the coast. The staff is friendly, the people are nice. The last time there was an old lady in her 60s named Allison chasing down people trying to force add cinnamon into their coffee, then she picks her targets and chase them down to blame the entire morning of gunk in the sewage on her targets, harassing them saying clean pan having food stuck on them and all kinds of imaginary accusations she hallucinated, then forcing the guests to clean the sink of an entire morning’s gunk in the sewage. She reminds me of my mom whose name is also allison, hallucinating what other people didn’t do and accusing them of it is what she does her entire life. She even caused the chinese embassy to break into the California legal justice system with some chinese lawyer, it’s surprising she didn’t go to prison yet. These kinds of people obsess over people and things they’ve hallucinated and kept harassing them until they lose the ability to.
There is a man in his 70s pretending to be a retired marine general. he shows people pictures of military without him in it and claims those are his pictures. james mattis was whom he was trying to impersonate but he has no idea who he is when mentioned that he sort of resembles him.

NOT A HOSTEL!… Low cost Rooming House. Mostly permanent residents…but on the flip side, I didn’t get accosted at or in front of the place (I did get harassed by a guy in front of the Hilton down the street one morning when I had to meet the tour guide for my Yosemite tour)
No air conditioning, the rooms were pretty warm even in early April… most showers are tiny boxes…there are 2 good showers that I saw (basement and third floor)

A fuir pour les voyages en famille.
Les "habitants" de cette auberge sont étranges et on est bien loin de l'auberge espagnole. Des personnes alcoolisées dans la cuisine, qui fument des "herbes de Provence"dans la cuisine. Bruyant et vieillot.
La localisation n'est pas top en famille, tout près du quartier Tenderloin .
Le personnel était par contre accueillant.
Étonnant qu'il soit noté aussi bien .

Pokoje wymagają mocnego remontu. Szafki pod łóżkami się nie domykają i mimo klocki, ciągle da się zajrzeć do środka. Poduszki trzeszczą jak napompowane. Zlewy w pokojach ciągle się zatykają. W pokoju 6-osobowym nie było praktycznie miejsca, by normalnie przejść. Brak kołder, spanie pod jakimiś dużymi ręcznikami, których potrzeba było 2-3, by było jakkolwiek ciepło w marcu. W pokoju jednocześnie śmierdziało, a właśnie przez niskie temperatury nie można było zostawić okna otwartego na zbyt długo. Mało wieszaków w pokoju i łazienek na korytarzu. W samych łazienkach słabo działające prysznice. Strome schody, ciężko po nich wejść z bagażem.

I think you get what you pay for. This place works a little more like a “mission” for the destitute rather than a hostel. The smell is terrible and the people is worse. I don’t blame the owners completely, though, but I didn’t even stay for a single night - I was fearful for my health and valuables and o ran straight out of the place and went to a decent hotel just around the corner.

I really like the place, staff is very helpful, rooms are better than what you'd expect at a price like this. Location is nice also, def recommended.

Very lovely hostel with a nice living room.
Rooms are big and with a sink and boards at the bottom of the bed to keep your things safe.
Bed mattress is a bit old and you feel the bounces + a odd smell which I believe comes from the carpet on the floor.
Breakfast is super nice and wide options, included in the booking.
Despite this, I have felt so comfortable there.

Boa localização para o transporte público; boa limpeza e interação fácil com outros hóspedes. Porém, são muitas escadas para adentrar às instalações. Muitas mesmo. Incovenientes: um rapaz do staff (que acredito ser o dono do hostel) que foi extremamente grosso com uma moça que trabalha com ele, sendo que xingou e gritou com ela escandalosamente na frente de outros hóspedes na cozinha. Dizem que a cozinha fecha às 22h, mas às 21h esse rapaz já chega a cozinha meio que dispersando quem estiver por lá. As camas de cima dos beliches são muito altas e achei bem perigosas. Poucos banheiros e chuveiros para banho.

Um das priores experiência que eu tive. Há 4 funcionário excelentes, mas vi um funcionário ,não sei se gerente, gritar com uma funcionaria na frente dos hóspedes ! Coisa absurda que eu nunca vi em nenhum lugar. I had the worse experience in my life like backpacker I saw a staff a shouting with another worker of reception It is so humiliating .. crazy staff. Another point The kitchen closed at 10pm , but the staff closed like 9:00 pm e expelling the guests indirectly turning off the light.
