Horrible! Absolutely horrible! Some of the routes shown on the map, don't seem to exist.
One of the main reasons I booked a hotel in Le Gosier, is because of the Sunday bus. It was supposed to pull into Bas du Fort and didn't, so we decided we'll just see Pointe-a-Pitre. Long story short, we ended up getting stranded and having to take a taxi back.
We finally found a bus that was "going to Bas du Fort", but it didn't pull into the village, but dropped us on the side of the highway and we had to walk so far to get to the fort.
On the way back, some drunk passenger was shouting something at us and other people, and the bus didn't stop in the hotel area but in downtown, so we had to walk again.
But the worst was yet to come. We had to change busses to get to St. Francois. On two ocassions, the busses had our destination written on there, but the driver said he's not going there and another started saying something in French, I couldn't understand. One driver was kind enough to write down which bus to take, but all in all we wasted like 2 hours just at the bus stop.
Getting out of St. Francois was much easier, but then at the transfer our second bus didn't show up for like an hour! Even locals were getting frustrated. When it finally showed, it again dropped us in downtown despite the driver saying he was going to the hotel area. I've never seen such a difficult disorganized bus system. I don't understand why there are no direct busses from the hotel area to other parts of the island, or at least more frequent transfer busses.
Not to mention, some of them don't have stop buttons near every seat and in another I couldn't find it at all.
But my favorite is, there are bus stops that you have no way of knowing they're bus stops, because there is nothing indicating that it's a bus stop.
On days that we were supposed to see many things, we only saw one thing because of their stupid busses!
Shameful! This is the EU for goodness sakes!
If you don't want to rent a car, you're better off just spending money on a taxi.
