Great hostel if you’re into low-key social vibes and authenticity.
It’s in a great location within a vibrant neighborhood, close to the river, and small cafes, supermarkets, and laundry places. There’s always a staff member available to help, and I believe they’re also involved in some social projects in the neighborhood. I’d definitely come back if I’m ever in Lyon.

Location felt unsafe with sketchy surroundings. Wifi required logging in every hour for me - very inconvenient, but maybe it was disturbed for my stay. Sometimes it worked for a few hours. It‘s nice that breakfast is included, but it is very minimal so maybe get additional food somewhere else. Kitchen and WC weren’t very clean, but ok. Beds were noisy and there was no AC in my room, which made it uncomfortable. Service was friendly though, so that was nice.
On the plus side, there’s a nice outdoor sitting area and a cool reading corner. You can enter / leave 24/7 and it was easy for me to connect to people

Wouldn’t stay again, but it has some redeeming features.

Can't expect much with the price, so it was alright. Wouldn't consider this a youth hostel as it seems like there are people living here long term and a lot of the people aren't travelers. The breakfast was great and there's a huge kitchen for you to cook where necessary. The bathrooms were okay, not the cleanest definitely but acceptable (unfortunately they were not ensuite and the entire hostel is sharing 4 bathrooms I believe?? (2 for each gender). I stayed in a six person all female dorm and the rooms were big so it didn't feel crowded. It was alright for a 3 night stay.

I really liked that the hostel had a big kitchen, courtyard and computers for guests to use. The library and office space was also nice. The wifi unfortunately did not work for my personal devices and the reception in the hostel was also not very good. Otherwise a nice stay!

Patron ignoble, profite d'une erreur de réservation booking, mal conçue sur une réservation en dortoir femme, pour vous la retirer après entente avec lui sur le remboursement. Ne vous y trompez pas si il reste de la place dans cet hôtel ce n'est pas pour rien. Il y en a tellement de bien dans le coin passez votre chemin loin du flâneur.

Une semaine au Flaneur et j'en suis ravi, j'avais peur d'avoir chaud en pleine canicule mais j'ai carrément eu froid (dans le bon sens!), tout le monde est trop sympa. J'étais censé passé une semaine compliquée a cause de problemes de logement, mais j'ai passé une super semaine, merci beaucoup à toute l'équipe !

1. Дуже приємний персонал, завжди усміхнені, раді допомогти. Коли ми лиш прийшли, відразу запропонували холодну воду.
2. Гарне лоббі/бар, є доступ у внутрішній дворик, також в наявності настільні ігри.
3. Локація більш менш близько до центру (але зважайте, що Ліон в цілому дуже велике місто, тому для когось це буде далеко, бо майже всі туристичні точки знаходяться на тому ''острівку''), правда район трохи цікавий, але ніякий випадків не було.
4. На лобі є фен, можна попросити.
5. Сніданок включений

Що не сподобалось:
1. У кімнаті було дуже жарко, навіть кондиціонер не допомагав.
2. Рушники за додаткову оплату.
3. Розетка одна коло ліжка, до якої підключена лампа, щоб їх використовувати, прийдеться відключити лампу.

I stayed in this hostel only for one night, but I think I can recommend it if you need a place for 1-2 days.

The stuff is very nice and speaks english.
The room was only for women, but with 16 beds which I find a little bit too much.
Breakfast included and kitchen is open to your use at any time.
The rooms and bathrooms are comparatively clean.
There is lobby and terrace where you can spend your time.

Location is nice, but I felt a little bit unsafe walking there at the late evening.

Pour le flanneur.. pour toute l'équipe et pour yüna la mascotte.. c'est plus qu'une auberge pour jeunes et moins jeune .. c'est une famille.. un très grand professionnalisme.. mon séjour touche à sa fin avec beaucoup d'amour .. c'est aussi une hygiène stricte et une équipe fantastique .. désormais mon lieu favori pour boire en verre, manger un bon saucisson et un ch'ti rosé.. sans oublier leurs délicieux brownies.. seul, avec les enfants, en groupe ou pour des réunions c'est l'ambiance parfaite..
Un lieu authentique et une âme de gones et fenottes..

Une auberge de jeunesse très sympa, avec une belle pièce centrale très conviviale . Très bon accueil et près du centre. Un bémol sur la chambre privée, spacieuse mais aménagement vraiment minimal

De retour d'un super séjour ici ! Première initiation pour moi en auberge de jeunesse et je me suis sentie comme à la maison (voir mieux!) : décoration cozy et chaleureuse, propreté des sanitaires, parties communes et des dortoirs, sympathie du personnel, ... Bref MERCI l'équipe du Flâneur, je reviendrais !!!! Et pour ceux qui hésitent; vous pouvez réserver sans crainte, vous ne manquerez de rien :)

Wir haben in unserem Zimmer ein benutztes Kondom gefunden. Wir waren mit der Schule dort und es ist sehr gefährlich dort. Augenkontakt= Jemand will dich zusammen schlagen. Alles musst du halt selber machen hier Frühstück ist schlecht und den Rest musst du in einer unhygienischen Küche selber machen und auch selber abspülen.
Alles ist dreckig und Toiletten stinken immer.

Ostello autentico, molto randagio ma con bella gente e ottimo per conoscere nuove persone. Ero con mia sorella in camerata mista, ci siamo sentite accolte e a nostro agio. Locker per le borse e 24h aperto. Alla prossima!

J'ai passé un excellent séjour et je tiens tout particulièrement à remercier Razak. Mon arrivée tardive n'a posé aucun problème. Il m’a accueilli avec une gentillesse et une chaleur comme je n’en avais jamais connues auparavant. Grâce à lui, je me suis sentie immédiatement à l’aise. Merci du fond du cœur, Razak, tu as rendu mon séjour tout simplement merveilleux !

I stayed there for two nights and I really loved the community spaces. The Service was great and the people were very kind. The vibe of the hostel was also very cozy. I liked that there were generall rules that made the stay for everyone better. The Hostel was very clean what I really appreciate.
I would've loved to have more space to put my stuff on then just the little box on the wall and I didn't see a Socket on my bed but I know that there were ones on the other beds so I'm not sure if I just didn't see mine.
The location was pretty good. It was very easy to get everywhere with the tram or Metro. At Daylight I did feel safe in the neighborhood but at night I wouldn't have so I came back earlier.

All in all I must say I really enjoyed my stay and I can definitely recommend anyone to go there!

This is a really really good hostel. I am surprised by the previous bad reviews. Honestly staying here was one of my best hostel experience, and I was travelling around hostels a lot before.

Bathrooms:
I liked that showers are clean and big, there was space to sit down and hang your clothes too. Clean and have big mirrors (plus a full body mirror too).

Atmosphere:
I like the atmosphere of the hostel, it’s very youth oriented and chill. I like stickers around the place, funny decorations and the overall design.

Kitchen:
The shared kitchen is very big, there are shelfs and fridge for guests. I was surprised how much space there was. There is a water fountain with cold refreshing water for all guests.

Rooms:
Very comfy and clean. There are rules that rooms are silent areas, and I was lucky to stay with people who respected this rule. I liked that the beds were nicely firm (hard to a good degree to make it comfy), especially pillows.

It’s not true that they don’t offer female only rooms, they do (and for the same price as the mixed dorms). I stayed in female only room and felt very safe.

Every guest gets a big storage box under their bed (it’s definitely bigger than the usual shelfs offered by many hostels). Remember to get your own padlock (but you can buy one here for like €3 if I remember correctly)

All bedsheets are Ikea quality-typical hostel accommodation standard.

Female oriented:
I loved that they offer free period products, female only dorms and they take part in “ask for Angela” campaign. It’s very woman solo travellers friendly and it’s amazing!

Common areas:
There are board games, guitar and keyboard available, a nice outdoor patio space and library with books. Plus there are computers if someone has to use one!

Location:
Very close to the center, very nice surroundings. It’s only 10-15 min walk to the centre, and there is a metro station here too. It’s in African area, but I felt safe and I think many people that complain about the fact that the place has a lot of people of colour have some racist biases they should work on with a therapist or something.

Bad aspects:
The only drawback is that the breakfast food is poor. I liked that they use soya milk, but the food choice is very small (cereal or piece of bread with Nutella, jam or butter). I wish they offered some not sugary options like some cream cheese or some form of savoury sandwich spread. I understand that it’s free breakfast, but the choice is just super small which was disappointing (hence 4 stars and not 5).

Overall I would give it 8.7 out of 10!

Seules Le service et l'accueil sont bien. sinon l'auberge en elle même est très vetuse.

Pretty nice… stayed in a crowded 16 person room which wasn’t great. There are only mixed dorms available so it’s a little questionable as a young woman. We also stayed in a 10 person mixed dorm which was much better.
Pretty clean. The breakfast is free but not very extensive (baguette and cereal).
Friendly people.
A sketchy neighborhood once the sun goes down, but nice in the daytime.

As soon as I arrived to this hostel I felt very welcome! The layout of the hostel makes it very easy to chat to people and the staff are really friendly. Would love to come back!

I enjoyed my stay, I liked the energy of the hostel, the staff were nice and welcoming! I appreciated the little small talk and friendly vibes.

I really like the common areas, very cute. I like that there's some good rules for keeping a good level of respect for everyone and for hygiene.

The all female room was a good level of cleanliness so that was super nice and comfortable. The bunks are a little unstable but not in a dangerous way, just slightly annoying if you're sensitive about that sort of thing.

I'm a fan of a mattress/pillow that is on the firmer side so I slept well :-)

I wish perhaps the showers would have some complimentary soap, like in other guesthouses I've stayed in.
I feel the bathrooms could be better.

The location (according a local friend) isn't the safest, but I felt totally fine during the day, I'm not sure about the night.

I stayed for only one night, the receptionist (night shift) was friendly and helpful. The room was cramped and cleanness was fair. I would not suggest for the breakfast, only bread and some cereal. The receptionist ( morning shift) was rude. She gave me a long face and warned me ( yes, warning!! How ridiculous?! ) because the man slept underneath my bed complained me making noise when I packing my stuff in the dark ( even in 10 mins and was not on the bed!!). She was definitely the friend of that man because she was talking with him for long with smile but gave me a black face. I would suggest her to advise the man to stay in a private room but not a share dormitory and not giving me this nonsense warning!

Les lits grincent beaucoup du coup cela peut déranger les autres personnes quand on veut monter et descendre du lit superposé et c'est dommage qu'il n'y ai pas une petite table dans les chambres en dortoir .

Concernant la cuisine commune c'est à revoir

Le Flâneur est idéalement situé, au centre de Lyon et à 20min à pied de la gare. L'intérieur est très chaleureux, des sofas confortables et une chouette déco, il y a aussi une cuisine communautaire. Les personnes du staff sont très aimables.
Les salles de bains et chambres sont bien nettoyées.
Je recommande vivement!

This was the worst hostel I have ever stayed at the service was fine but it felt that people were living in the hostel and not passing through. Would definitely look for different option.
