Visiting Lyon with my family from Alberta Canada we wanted to really enjoy the local cuisine, after all that is what Lyon is famous for.
We booked a table three days in advance, and arrived at the Resturant which you wouldn’t know it was such a gem unless you had done some research or been informed.
The wait staff was professional from start to finish, on entry your name is matched to your reservation, and you are escorted to your table. The Resturant itself has likely not changed much since its beginnings in 1928 which is fantastic with old photos, and period decorations, it has maintained its authentic feel.
The menu is traditional, and there is something for all, we ordered three starters, the Fond d'artichaut frais au foie gras maison, Assiette de Saumon gravlax, and the beef tartar, all were delicious and very sizeable portions.
For our mains we had the chicken, beef and the Quenelle de brochet en gratin.
The produce is authentic, free range chicken, dry aged beef, and portions that are for sharing. The sauces were rich, and balanced, perfectly seasoned and all delicious.
I’ll add that even though this Resturant is on every foodie’s list, aside from us and another family from the US everyone else was French, and you could see that they were enjoying the food as much as we were!
Desert was also delicious, and what a choice, again something for everyone and all in house made.
As we got up to leave a gentleman from the table next to me asked me how I liked the food? I said it was delicious, he gave an appreciative thumbs up, clearly this Resturant is a local point of pride and rightly so!
I would highly recommend eating here, so far the best meal I have had in Lyon, and a truly memorable experience.

We had a very enjoyable Saturday lunch at Comptoir Abel - service is professional, friendly and anticipatory. Never rushed, but never neglects. Perfect combination. The menu is classic, with some interesting additions, but we focused on traditional Bouchon selections and were very impressed. Try to get an outside table and enjoy a classic Lyonnaise meal!

Perfect for a typical Lyonnaise bouchon. Excellent food (Salade Lyonnaise, Poulet aux Morilles à la Crème, and more). Large portions.
