Stayed here on night one of the TMB. Great location for getting an early start on Day 2 and staying ahead of crowds. Shower lines can get long and storage room is a bit convoluted in terms of access, but a friendly staff and good food makes up for any inconveniences. A nice stay

Accueil exécrable !
Après une rando de 15km je suis allé là-bas pour un repas chaud et on m'a refoulé sèchement en disant que tout était réservé alors que toutes les tables extérieures étaient vides.
J'étais seul et ils ont totalement refusés en disant qu'il fallait téléphoner avant (alors qu'il n'y a pas de réseau dans la montagne).
Je déconseille fortement !!

Mon passage au refuge de Nant Borrant a malheureusement été une grosse déception, surtout après 10 heures de marche lors de mon TMB sous la chaleur. On nous avait indiqué à notre arrivée que l’on pouvait poser nos affaires à “seulement 10 minutes” du refuge, ce qui s’est avéré complètement faux : le trajet a duré 25 minutes, avec des montées et descentes très éprouvantes.

Épuisé, j’ai naturellement contacté le refuge par respect, pour annuler le repas du soir, pensant que cela pouvait encore s’organiser (il n’était que 18h30). La personne au téléphone a été extrêmement désagréable, me répondant de manière agressive que c’était “irrespectueux” et que “c’était super, merci”, car ils avaient cuisiné pour rien. Elle m’a même raccroché au nez. Un ton inadmissible pour un lieu censé accueillir des randonneurs dans un esprit de bienveillance et de solidarité.

Je comprends la logistique d’un repas en refuge, mais un minimum de compréhension et de courtoisie aurait été attendu. Sans parler du fait que tout cuisinier sait qu’un repas non servi peut être recyclé ou conservé. Bref, une expérience très amère.
Vous ne montrez pas une bonne image des Contamines et des refuges, prenez cette critique de manière constructive et soyez plus accueillant avec vos clients, cela semble normal et cohérent surtout dans le contexte de votre établissement.

Ça faisait longtemps que nous avions envie de refaire la montée de la voie romaine avec la Jeep. On ne peut plus aller jusqu'au refuge de Balme, alors on s'est arrêté au refuge du Nant Borrant pour déjeuner. La terrasse est charmante, ombragée ou ensoleillée, suivant la table choisie. Accueil chaleureux, personnel très agréable, service rapide. Plats savoyards excellents, avec une bière locale bien appréciée par cette chaleur. Le cadre est parfait, entre montagnes et forêts, avec le torrent qui apporte la fraîcheur. Les chaises longues invitent à rester profiter du calme et du paysage. Dommage que l'accès soit interdit aux véhicules en juillet et août. Bravo a toute l'équipe.

I did the full TMB earlier this month and this was my favorite refuge. It's nested in a gorgeous valley with incredible views, the cottage itself is the most beautiful, well-cared for establishment I had the fortune to visit along the trek—and competition is fierce in the region. If you arrive on a sunny day, you get to enjoy the terrace overlooking the mountains, but the interior feels just as welcoming and homey. Food was excellent, showers and toilets were in good condition, and they also have a mud room equipped with electric drying boot racks (not all refuges have this) where you get to leave your gear for the night (you're given a box for the few personal items you need to take to your room). Overall they're quite well organized, which contributes to a mess-free stay in what I can only assume is a pretty busy hut during all season. And if you order the takeaway packed lunch for the next day, it comes in a cloth bag with the refuge name you get to keep as a gift!

Op de hele GR 5 heb ik nergens een refuge tegengekomen waar ik blij van werd. Het is een noodzakelijk kwaad als je geen tent wil meenemen . Het eten is overal hetzelfde (pasta) en alles is er duur.
Dat er mensen zijn die vijf sterren aan een refuge in de Alpen geven kan ik dus niet begrijpen.

I enjoyed my stay here during my trek. Beds were comfortable, great shower, and the food was really good. I was able to pick up a lunch for the trail. The views to start the morning were amazing.

In general everything was good for what it was... A refuge with dorms. However the corridors, toilets, and showers are very small and crammed. The toilets and showers are outside of the building. Food was alright, nothing to write home about. No wifi available.

I totally appreciate to have a great meal, comfortable bed, and a shower instead of carrying a tent and other backpack essentials. Yes, shower was short in a tiny space but it's in the middle of wilderness, I was simply grateful. It was a smaller refuge with family atmosphere which I really liked.

we were the first to arrive before the kitchen opened. 40min later, when about 10 other tables had gotten their food and drinks before we could even place the order, something felt quite off. when i went to ask, the waitress-lady went on a defensive tirade including "but you're on a holiday", "you could have waived more", "you see there's a lot of people" (we were the first ones to arrive), what not. while the wait could've been tolerable, rude personnel telling me their bad service is actually all my own fault -- is a bit too much.

Stayed here as part of a tour group. Quaint location in the mountains with beanbag chair to lay in and relax after a long day on the trail. Excellent food - delicious and lots of it. Rooms were bunks, sturdy and comfortable. Bathrooms were clean and hot showers a plus.

My husband and I stayed here and was our first stop on the TMB. We got to the refuge very late and the owner was nice enough to wait for us. The food is good. The rooms are all shared with others which hard for me to sleep in but otherwise was nice. Three toilets for all the refuge to share. Also, even though this refuge is listed as in Les Contamines, it is actually 1.5 hours hike beyond it.
