Unfortunately, the “superior” room we stayed in priced at around €400 a night was very small, with two single beds pushed together instead of a double bed we asked for twice (during booking and before arrival). The bathroom inexplicably didn’t have a shower hook for the shower so you had to hold the shower head in your hand the whole time when showering. The bathrobes were old and worn down. The paint job in the room was really bad. Overall, this room was of worse quality than some 2/3 star hotels I’ve stayed in.
Some of the reception staff were quite dismissive and unhelpful, it’s strange that people working at the pool are more professional than front of house staff.
The highlights:
- the garden is fantastic and a great place to hang out in
- modern (although small) gym
- good location at walking distance to central aix
- friendly and attentive staff
Need to fix some things to be 5 star:
- upgrade breakfast. For 30 eur (+ extra for coffee, juice, omeletes), this is not good enough. You need to offer other drink options than water. Very limited protein options etc
- take care of the property - many of the villas and also the pool has a semi-rundown feel to them. Could be easily fixed
- don’t be greedy. I don’t like getting squeezed at every situation (coffee for breakfast, icecream, evening drink). 5-star hotels typically offer something complementary to their guest. Learn from that
Passt alles! Ausgezeichnete Küche, super Service!
Wunderbaren Garten, Pool.
Zimmer war klein aber sauber.
Wir kommen gerne wieder!
We stayed at this hotel for three nights and overall had a great experience. The grounds are beautifully maintained — clean, lush, and truly inviting. It’s clear the hotel takes pride in its appearance and ambiance.
Our room was spacious, with a comfortable queen-sized bed and perfectly functioning air-conditioning, which was appreciated during the warm days. We requested a fan for white noise while sleeping, and the staff brought one up very promptly — excellent service.
While we didn’t dine at the restaurant, we did try the homemade ice cream by the chef, which was fantastic. That said, for a hotel of this caliber and price point, I feel a small gesture like offering one scoop per guest per day would go a long way. It’s not about the cost — just the gesture. Charging for it felt a bit off-brand for a five-star property.
The hotel recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, and the renovations they’ve done are tasteful and elevate the whole experience while keeping the charm of the original property.
The gym is quite small — really only comfortable for one or two people at a time — but if you go during a quiet period, you can still get a decent workout in.
As for the location, it was ideal for us. A peaceful and private setting, yet only about a 20–25 minute walk to town, which made everything easily accessible without being right in the middle of the hustle and bustle.
All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel. A few small tweaks would elevate the experience even more, but it’s a lovely place to stay and well worth a visit.
1) First day, during check-in, we were informed that the garden door was broken, can’t be locked. No safe box in the room cos the hotel was “safe”. The water would be free even if we order more but then when we came back to the room in the night, we were told that it was with charges, however, the water bottles kept being delivered into the wrong room.
2) day 2, we saw that the phone said “room 43” but we were in room 42, we informed them but it stayed like that till we checked out. Staff at breakfast kept bringing wrong food. Laundry for kids are the same price as adults which was ridiculous. We have been in many 5 stars hotels which charge 20-50% less for kid items. This is the first hotel we got charged full for kid clothing, however, we sent about 20 of kids cloth to wash anyway cos we were on road trip before arrived in this hotel, they all came back damp! We had to hang them around the room, we didn’t complain. Moreover, we asked the staff to check if the farm close by was open and if we had to book a pony in advance if my kid needed to ride on. They said “it was too late yesterday and too early to call today but I checked the website, it should be fine. No booking in advance for pony ride” so we drove there but there was no pony in the farm at all..
3) day 3, we requested for a laundry again but it was Sunday so the external place they sent to was close but the hotel offered to wash for us instead. Thanks to the hotel for that, this time the clothes came back fine. In the night, there was a staff knocked on the doors few times at 10 pm while the kids were sleeping. Again, the phone was probably switched, the other room ordered some pepper or salt from the bar but it was delivered to our room. We informed the front desk again and the staff said “it’s technical problem. We know it’s you” well, the bar staff clearly didn’t know.
4) day 4, we requested laundry service again, full price for kid items (for example, 10€ to wash a pants for my 1.5 year old). They items came back the next day cos “it was too late last night, we didn’t want to bother you.” which was good but the morning that we received and about to check out, we found out that the clothes came back damp again and we would be on the road trip again, no time to hang them. This time we complained, they just said they would check with the external laundry place they sent.
My husband forgot Pyjamas pants there, we got notified by external service for lost&found. I registered and waited for 1-2 weeks but no update on it. I had to call the hotel again and they had to recheck with house keeper, was told that the parcel was ready but was waiting to be picked up. However, the parcel was delivered very quick after the call. (30€ for the shipment+service charge).
Well, never again. Too exhausted to deal with this hotel service everyday when we were supposed to be on holiday. Kids love the garden tho and the location was ok, walking distance to the old town, therefore, 2 stars.
