LES CHAMOIS

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY what a mountain lodge should be like. The place, the people, the food, the rooms, the story.
I’ve been backreading the bad and not so good reviews and there are lots of things I can say about this place that are the exact opposite. We LOVED the place. And yes, this IS the kind of place that you can either love or hate.
First of all: it’s located at the back of beyond, in the heart of the forest, meters away from hiking trails and a natural reserve. Please lower your expectations of hot running water at all times, readily available full option meals at any time of the day or hotel services. The staff are not here to please you, they live here, so respect their home and be grateful they are sharing this space with you. And sharing they are. For the price you pay there is so much more than accomodation. Look around and enjoy where you are. If you’ve come here by car don’t complain. If you’ve ridden up the mountain, good for you, I’m sure you’ll enjoy resting in a place like this.
Second of all: if you don’t particularly enjoy the smell or company of animals, go someplace else. The dogs on the property are loved and cared for, and that is a good sign, but most of all, they are there for protection, so respect them.
Third: if you think the place smells funny, or is too full of junk, again, you’re in the wrong place. This is what a mountain cabin will always smell like, and the older it is, the richer the stories that went on under its roof. Ok, there is a collection of stuff that the owner has chosen to display, I’m curious how that makes your stay any less enjoyable.
The list can go on.
Have you had their home baked croissants and baguette?
Have you had dinner in this amazing place?
Have you tasted their coffee?
Have you truly enjoyed the scenery and spent some time listening to the stories of the owners?
We arrived here at almost midnight on the day we were supposed to check in. Although they close the reception at 20:00, all it took was a phone call and there was absolutely no problem. “You will find your key at the reception, your room will be on the second floor. Would you like to have breakfast? See you in the morning”.

Cadre atypique qui vaut le coup.. Pour amateur de flipper.

**Expérience décevante à l’Hôtel de Chamois au Col de Turini, arrivés vers 16h30, le temps de boire un verre en face pour l'ouverture de l'établissement à 17h.**

Le cadre est certes insolite, mais l’expérience globale laisse à désirer. Le propriétaire semble plus passionné par la brocante que par l’hôtellerie — l’établissement ressemble davantage à un musée d’objets hétéroclites qu’à un lieu de repos.

Le vrai point noir reste l’odeur persistante de chien dans les parties communes et la chambre, probablement liée à un élevage sur place. Cela rend le séjour très inconfortable, surtout pour les personnes sensibles aux odeurs ou allergiques.

Dommage, car le site a du potentiel. Un vrai effort sur l’hygiène serait nécessaire pour en faire un lieu agréable.

Cette mésaventure nous a finalement conduits à un véritable havre de paix à Tour : la Maison de la Tour, que nous recommandons sans la moindre hésitation.

Some reviews here are terrible, but I didn't see them before booking. I arrived to find a hotel that looked run down from the outside, so my hopes weren't high.||My room was spacious with a small standing balcony and two twin beds. It's fair to say the furnishings are old and have seen better days, but the beds are clean, and that's the main thing. ||For me, the good things, that make up for the Fawlty Towers-ish aspects, are that the owner was warm, helpful and friendly and the food on demi-pension was excellent. I guess the owner probably responds to your own attitude towards him, but he couldn't have been nicer to me, so others must be rubbing him up the wrong way. ||The restaurant is unique, in that it's filled with old pinball machines and old car and bike artifacts, but that adds to the charm. I liked the fact that the owner and server were attentive and friendly to everyone. There were no negative aspects to the evening meal at all. ||For the money, you get an acceptable room, a good restaurant and a lot of quirky charm. It's a lot cheaper than elsewhere on the Col, but that reflects the age of the rooms I guess. I'm happy I stayed there and would do so again. Manage your expectations and you'll be happy.
