This is a unique restoration project following decades of work by mainly two people. It is a herculean task starting from almost a total ruin. Most of the work has been to stabilize existing structure, so like at Pompeii, you have to use your imagination and sketches to visualize much of its original beauty. The story behind the chateau's development and restoration is key, so you need a guide and best be able to understand intermediate French. The mason who has worked on the chateau for decades gave us the tour including insights into its original designs based on years of digging and observation. There isn't a regular docent, so best to contact the email listed on the website to arrange a time to visit. Definitely worth the effort.
