The owner of The Forteresse de Berrye was very welcoming when we made contact to ask if we could see around. There is a huge undertaking in place to renovate the buildings here but the story is quite extraordinary. Limestone is quarried from grounds beneath the vineyard and we were able to see the remarkable and painstaking transformation that is in progress. We finished our visit with Simon who hosted the wine tasting in a beautiful hall and were able to sample the fine wines of Berrye. A very interesting and enjoyable afternoon but do make arrangements in advance if you want to see around the Fortress.
