I reviewed this castle 10 months ago, and gave it 4 stars for the reasons listed below. However, it comes to mind more often than any other place I went to in the Loire Valley and I think of it when I visit house or castles in other countries because it really is one of the most impressive places I've been to. For that reason, I've upped it to 5 stars.

I loved the castle rooms without the furniture because you can appreciate the space, walls, floor and ceilings so much more. Many other castles have furniture. We basically had the place to ourselves which made it special too (I don't think it gets that busy during the week in September). However, I would agree with comments from others:
1) Where is the information about the rooms? There are leaflets available but they focus on the art in the rooms rather than going into more detail about the original space.
2) you've got to like contemporary art, but actually it didn't detract from the visit for me.
3) where is the information about the owners? There is some, but I think it could be better.
In spite of that, definitely go. It's really worth it. They have picnic tables inside too.

Having read the article in a French magazine I felt I must visit. 3 hours is too long it's probably 2 hours to immerse yourself in the building and its contents as the southern wing is under refurbishment and so the rooms are closed. The cost makes it a MUST visit yet I was disappointed in the contents.

Monument très beau j'adore j'y suis venu avec mon collège j'ai adoré (petit détail j'étais pas rassuré dans les escaliers en bois) on a fait plein d'activités c'était trop cool je conseille de le visiter fortement

Très joli extérieur digne de belles époques. Pour ce qui est de l'intérieur il faut aimer l'art moderne ce que personnellement j'aime assez peu. L'entrée est peu chère pour un monument national.
Les explications architecturales avant la visite était top et nous ont permis de visualiser tous les changements.

Nous avons profité de la visite guidée qui explique l'histoire du château. Cette visite est une bonne introduction à l'exposition d'art contemporain qui est dans l'enceinte du château.

Formidable, un château remarquable à visiter sans hésitation, on s'est bien profité de notre visite en famille...un voyage dans l'art et l'histoire, je remercie Céline une personne très sympa et bienveillante, sur tout avec les enfants, qui consacre le temps et l'effort pour expliquer tout autour

Un poitevin doit au moins 1 fois visiter le château Oiron. C'est pas Versailles mais l'occasion pour les amateurs d'art et d'histoire de passer un moment agréable.

Un Bijou. Ce château méconnu mérite le détour ! Très bien entretenu, explication par l'hôtesse d'accueil à l'arrivée sur la vie du château et le pourquoi de l'exposition d'art contemporain. Très bonne idée ce mélange original, ce qui le différencie des autres châteaux.
