Lovely museum, very informative with very helpful and friendly staff.

An absolute must-see when you’re in Lille—especially if you’re visiting with young people. The Musée de la Résistance offers a powerful and deeply moving introduction to what resistance meant during both the First and Second World Wars. Housed in a 19th-century fort, the site itself holds a heavy historical and emotional weight—around 70 résistants from Lille were executed here, and their stories are a key part of the visit. You can truly feel the spiritual and historical significance of the place.

The guide we had was outstanding—deeply knowledgeable and genuinely passionate. She captivated the students I was accompanying, and even I found myself completely absorbed by everything she shared. There’s a lot in this museum: a rich, well-curated collection and a layout that makes it easy to follow the narrative whether you’re visiting solo or as part of a guided tour.

It may be a little outside the city center, but don’t let that stop you. It’s easily accessible—there’s a direct bus from Gare Lille-Flandres that drops you right in front of the museum. Honestly, it’s one of the most meaningful places you can visit in Lille away from the usual tourists crowds, and I highly recommend making the time for it.
