We visited the restaurant Les Ganivelles in St Cyprien last night, one of our many visits over the years, and a place we consider our “local”, since it is situated around 100 mètres from our residence. To say we were disappointed is a mere understatement: from start to finish it failed to deliver and to meet expectations. Upon studying the drinks menu, we made the decision not to go for a traditional aperitif: a glass of Banyuls, a local fortified wine, priced at 9 euros seemed well overpriced, so we went for a bottle of wine instead which would serve as a pre drink as well as a beverage to accompany our main meal. The menu was all a la carte, the fixed priced menus, no longer on offer in the evenings. I decided to order a peas and cucumber gazpacho for starters, and a succulent of chicken for mains, with fresh chips with paprika, whilst my husband chose a fish ceviche to start off with, followed by a roasted cod on a bed of puréed peppers. Some time later the waiter came out with two starters, not what had been ordered by us and by the look of it no /one else around us, , and he seemed baffled as to whom the order belonged. Not long after, our orders were brought to our table, but my green gazpacho was a very definite red as it turned out it was a tomato one. At no point had the substitution been put to us to see if it was acceptable or not. As it wasn’t, I queried this and was told that peas were no longer in season, but as it wasn’t what I had chosen, I requested that the dish be replaced by the ceviche, the same as my husband’s. When it came to our table, not only was it different, but the waiter explained that it had somehow been elevated, given the earlier “ mistake”, a dish made up of two ingredients: raw cabbage, and small pieces of salmon, which bore no resemblance to the one my husband had in front of him. The main courses were beautifully presented, but sadly the quality of the cooking was yet another let down, with both dishes overcooked and a very dry chicken; as for the chips, I suspect the paprika had been missed out altogether.
One waiter checked to see how things were going and when disappointment was expressed replied that they were in the process of changing the menu; this should clearly have been communicated from the start.
Needless to say we left without ordering a dessert, having already spent enough on a meal which did not give value for money and desperate to avoid wasting any more. Despite the proximity of the restaurant and its beautiful environment it is unlikely that we will return; we have had several good meals there in the past but unfortunately, this time round, it turned out to be a really poor experience.

Très bon restaurant : produits locaux bien travaillés. J’ai passé un excellent déjeuner. Je recommande vivement le poisson ! Bravo et merci !

Excellent déjeuner dans un très agréable décor ! La planchette à partager est un délice !! Merci à Andréas pour sa gentillesse et sa diligence ????
En revanche le plat cabillaud du marché ?sans saveur trop cuit sans sauce une honte quantité réduite
Pas de responsable pendant le weekend
Il faut faire du commerce et un peu moins de gestion financière
