We were in Paris for a long weekend, to watch France v Scotland rugby. We had spent some time investigating hotels/locations to stay in, and Hotel Duc de St Simon was the one we chose. We were not disappointed!||It is beautiful. The staff are wonderful, welcoming and very patient when it came to my schoolboy French. The common areas are luxurious and we really felt that we were in Paris. ||The room was so cosy and well appointed. The furnishings in excellent condition. We had breakfast in the room one morning and it was served prompt on a beautiful silver tray but on other mornings walked a short distance to a cafe on the Rue du Bac, which we also highly recommend.||The hotel's location was excellent for us. Just a 10 minute walk up to the river. Rue St Germain will take you towards the Latin Quarter. Paris is such a beautiful city; we will certainly return and when we do we will book with Hotel Duc de St Simon again!

What a treasure in one of the best neighborhoods in Paris. Beautiful, clean and well maintained hotel. Professional and helpful staff. Exceptional location which is both quiet yet a short walk away from some of the most vibrant and iconic Parisian avenues and locations. I have so many good things to say about this property and the people who make it come alive.

Warning: long and detailed review below. Hope it’s helpful! I benefited a lot from others’ reviews while selecting hotels so am paying it forward…

My mother and I are here to celebrate her 70th birthday. The last time we were in Paris was in 2000 when I was a university student here and I wanted to stay in my old neighborhood. We’ve been fortunate to stay in room 27, thanks to a kind upgrade from a standard to a superior room -merci M Sade!

For the past three days we have been delighted not only by the beauty of our room (approx 18m² whereas the standard is approx 12 m²) but especially by its brilliant design and functionality.

***The décor***

First of all, the room is sumptuously decorated in fabric wallpaper with classical Sicilian themes and adorned with gilded-framed scenes of Sicily which look like gravures extracted from an old book. The thick light-blocking curtains are of the same fabric and while one might think this type of design would be overwhelming in a small space it is actually completely soothing, welcoming and elegant. It helps that the window in our room overlooks several lovely gardens (the hotel’s and the neighbors’) and allows a lot of natural light in.

The window is a classic Parisian window which bolts on the top and bottom with a twisty knob. The mechanism is smooth and it must be very good quality because it blocks noise (though there isn’t much noise in this residential quartier) and also insulated the room perfectly. We’re from the tropics and thought the heating would be required but we haven’t needed it at all and have been very comfortable indoors even when we needed coats and hats outside in the early morning around 6am.

I haven’t yet inquired about the details but clearly the hotel has been carefully renovated. While the rooms feel like you’re in classical Parisian elegance of another era, the bathroom is thoroughly updated and looks and feels brand new. And there’s lots of counter space and storage! Which is so so rare in smaller Parisian hotels.

***The bathroom***

Besides a sink that has plenty of “counter space” on the edges, there is a 3-tiered shelf (chrome and glass so completely unobtrusive) which is perfect for cosmetic bags, hair dryer (I brought my own bc the hotel’s is less powerful), etc. The bathroom has both a bathtub and a shower and the pressure is good. And the toilet flushes well.

The only thing is that it takes some time to get the water to the right temperature (requires fidgeting with the separate hot (c) and cold (f) knobs and turning them just a tad as they’re sensitive. (Usually at home I take a bucket shower or turn the shower on and off to save water but in this hotel once I got the temperature right I would just leave the water running until the end of my shower.) It’s such a small thing but I thought I’d mention it because c’mon this place can’t be that completely perfect lol ????????????.

***The storage***

Anyway, the design of the room continues to delight. The bed is framed with two full length closets and lots of hangers. Again, not just functional, but stylish and beautiful with medium brown wood cabinets and matching wooden hangers, shoe rack in the left closet, a handy vertical shelf where you can tuck away a laptop bag and top shelf with extra blankets which we did not require. There is a bathrobe in the closet and another in the bathroom. The closet on the left has a safe which you open and close with your own credit card. My laptop did not fit in it and often I leave it charging on the desk and it hasn’t been a problem at all. The closet on the right has a mini fridge stocked with essentials (champagne, etc).
