Mary and her team were exceptional hosts — warm, welcoming, and incredibly helpful. As Texans trying to pick up some French, we appreciated the friendly conversations and thoughtful support. One excellent example: they helped us make a last-minute dinner reservation on a busy Friday night, calling three different restaurants and ultimately finding us a table at Le Bulldog, which turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip.

We stayed in Room 21, which we definitely recommend for two people. It has a large, comfortable bed, a desk, two chairs, and two side tables — enough space for two adults to move around without feeling cramped. The bathroom is compact but functional, with a wet-room layout where the shower and toilet share one space. While it’s true there’s no shower curtain, it wasn’t a problem — you just need to be a little careful. The A/C worked well, the room was serviced daily, and an iron was available on request. There’s no scenic view, but the room was quiet, clean, and perfect for resting after long days of sightseeing.

The TV only has French channels and no casting options, so bring a tablet or laptop if you want to stream anything. Also, be aware that you’ll need to insert your room key into a slot by the door to activate the lights and power, a common energy-saving feature in Europe.

The front door is monitored at all times — it's a sliding glass door that only opens after staff see and recognize you, which added a great sense of security. Though you leave your key at the front desk each time you leave, there’s a 24-hour attendant, and we always felt safe.

The location is excellent — just a minute from the Hôtel de Ville metro, and easily walkable to Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, the Seine, and the Latin Quarter. There's a pharmacy and a corner store one minute away, and plenty of cafés, bakeries, and wine shops nearby. The hotel is in Le Marais, a vibrant, historic, and LGBTQ+ friendly neighborhood — full of charm, culture, and inclusivity. We felt completely welcomed.

The lobby is cozy and elegant, with a quiet, almost academic feel — a nice contrast to the lively streets outside. The elevator was functional, and despite being in the heart of the city, the room was quiet at night.

If you’re looking for genuine hospitality, walkability, safety, and comfort, Hôtel Vieux Marais is a fantastic choice. We would absolutely recommend it to couples or solo travelers visiting Paris.

Loved the authentic experience of staying in this hotel. The staff were so friendly and went out of their way with any requests. Room was quiet basic but comfortable. Any requests were met. No kettle in the room but they provided hot water and milk whenever asked. My daughter left some sweets in the reception area when leaving and they even went out the way to chase taxi to give her them. Gorgeous experience. Thank you

Ten eerste ben ik geen meneer maar mevrouw. Het ziet er zo leuk uit beneden maar de kamer was als een ziekenhuis. Niks aan de muur, heel kaal. Geen airco. Geen koelkastje voor water. Geen mogelijkheid voor koffie. Kapotte gordijnen. Vies toiletwat eigenlijk kapot was. En dit alles voor €275,_ per nacht. De mensen waren heel vriendelijk. Maar ik zal hier niet meer boeken.

Cons: Bed sizes are small, not for tolls men/women.
Toilets and shower drains are not working as expected.
