I’m currently staying at Generator Hostel Paris (checked in yesterday for a 3-night stay), and I’m very disappointed with the way basic needs and guest service are being handled here.
The hostel is huge—8 floors, multiple rooms on each—but shockingly, there’s only one place to fill drinking water, and that’s at the bar on the ground floor. Yesterday, a staff member at the bar kindly told me I could fill my water bottle from the tap there. Reception also confirmed this was the only option for drinking water.
However, today when I went back to do the same, a lady at the bar shouted at me, saying “You should ask first!” I explained politely that I had been told it was okay, but instead of acknowledging the confusion, she snatched my bottle from me and started filling it herself—despite the tap area being visibly dirty. She then told me to move away from the bar in an extremely rude tone.
This entire interaction left me feeling disrespected and uncomfortable. For a hostel that markets itself as premium and charges accordingly, this kind of treatment is unacceptable. At the very least, guests should have easy access to clean drinking water and be spoken to with basic courtesy.
I hope the management takes note, because this is not the kind of experience anyone expects from an international hostel brand like Generator.
