Fabulous hidden gem in the Paris neighborhood of Clichy. Superb French food with personalized attentive service by the owners themselves. We go to Paris twice a year and have eaten at La Barriere three times since discovering it last year. This last time, two of us had the lobster tasting menu and one of us had the regular tasting menu. As a few sample pictures attached show, every course was amazing. And, as we expected, the recommended wine pairing was perfect. The restaurant is small, so reservations are usually needed. Our only hesitation in posting this review is us being able to get reservations with less than a week’s notice in the future.

Walked into this restaurant on a cold night. Felt very welcomed by the shop owner.
I was quite tempted to have the lobster menu but it was filled with lobster dishes and I wanted some variety, so I went for the daily menu.
Started with 2 pieces of bread with white cheese and herbs. Very surprised by the cheese, I felt the flavour of the herb exploded in my mouth. The herb and cheese complemented each other nicely. The bread was made in house. 1 was topped with white sesame seed and the was topped with poppy seeds. I loved the 1 with sesame seeds, the seeds weren't simply decorative, it was very flavorful.
Next was pumpkin soup with shrimps. The taste of pumpkin was well balanced with the cream. It was a perfect balance enhanced with the flavour of shrimp. Shrimps were very fresh, sweet with the perfect bite.
Following the pumpkin soup was calamari. The dish reminded me of Singapore chilli crab but non-spicy, with a thinner consistency because it wasn't thicken with egg. The surprise in this dish was the peppercorn. It gave the dish a really nice kick in the mouth and enhanced the flavour of the dish. The calamari was also well-cooked so it didn't feel too chewy nor too mushy. Calamari was very fresh and cooked flavourfully unlike some calamari that have no taste.
The main dish was white fish. This shop serves nothing much fresh. The flavour of the fish was on point, no fishy smell or taste. The side dishes and sauce complemented the fish really well, never overpowering the flavour of the fish. It was simple and delightful.
Dessert was pear with a hint of lemon, caramel sauce, a purple sour sauce, a scoop of chocolate and a crispy crystallized sugar bite. The caramel was very smooth and not overly sweet, does not stick on your teeth and goes very well with the peer. Chocolate was amazing, it really melts into your heart.
Overall, the food was amazing, the service was amazing. It was a great dining experience in this little humble restaurant hidden in Paris!
Last but not least, feel free to give Caesar a good pat or rub. He is really friendly!
